This was/is a great running engine, with excellent leak down numbers....so, first I will determine what is in/out of spec. I have all of the measuring tools required to determine this..... and I am a firm believer in letting the testing & measurement results determine/define the extent of the casework/machining required. Based on my observations, this engine was rebuilt in the not too distant past.......The internals appear to be in very good shape, all wear-parts as new....but it was sealed very badly, using a combo of silicone sealer and that Indian Head gasket/shellac stuff. I'd say that the casework and heads were done professionally, but the assembly, or at least the sealing, was done by someone inexperienced. I.E. it ran great, but was a serious leaker. I wouldn't have torn this engine down, if it wasn't so leaky. ......but..in for a dime, in for a dollar.

I am moving fast and low, with a lot to get done in the next week or two, (making grilles too)

http://www.x-faktory.com/store/p1/Custom_Grilles.html

but I will measure and post my findings....as I have time.

regards,
al

Shiny bits

I had to take some time off for some well deserved R&R. Can you guess where I was?

Well....I'm back and back to work on the 2.7.......

Some nice, shiny bits were waiting for me.

Just add E-cams, headers and sport muffler.....and go!!

regards,
al

Megasquirt

I love it when the postman stops by.........I just received the ECU from DIY Autotune. This time I am using the MegaSquirt-III EMS System with MS3X Expansion V3.57. Lots of cool features in this unit. I buy my Megasquirt units, per-assembled and tested, from DIY Autotune. They know their stuff.

al

Well, i have been very busy and therefore neglecting the updates....so we will just have to fast forward to the testing phase.........I still have to route and trim the spark plug cables, plumb the fuel lines, wire up the TPS, etc.... stay tuned.

Thanks,
I'm using TWM/Borla ITBs on this build. Still a few details to sort out, including getting the MS3S prepped, but I should have this up and running next week. 1st fire video coming shortly.

Bula,
al

Hi Al
Always love to see your posts, you do great work. I have a 2.7RS ish engine with home made manifolds using the Triumph Tripple T-Bodies and just about ready for a first start. I am using Megasquirt 2 with direct ignition wasted spark, and would like to ask if you have base map "ignition and Fuel" you could share.
Thanks Mike

It is alive................

I mounted the engine on my test stand and completed the wiring/plumbing for testing, configured the MS3 for this engine (fuel requirements, etc.), loaded one of my start up files................and .........it is alive!!!!!!! I removed the fuel pump and injector fuses and cranked to build up oil pressure...................than replaced all that and it popped a few times and fired up/stumbled a bit..........I knew it was going to go, so I ran and got my camera. This engine still requires a day or two of fine tuning, ITB balancing, etc.....but it never ceases to amaze me when they just start up and run this well.

this video captures the first real start-up and run.

regards,
al

PS: I used MS3 with the expansion board (pre-assembled/tested from DIY Autotune) The combo of Megasquirt and TunerStudio makes for a very feature rich, easy to use system.

Thanks for sharing, Al!
No , me neither......that is the beauty of EFI.........however, it was 70F, so I will need to continue tweaking to ensure good cold starts in colder weather. The major difference is the flexibility of the tweaking.

al
