Techron

I drive my car about once a week right now. Went to start it the other morning and it felt and sounded like it was running on 5 cylinders! Holy cow. Checked all wires and connections. Then I added Techron to gas tank and took a good ride. Started up the car early this morning and car started with a smooth idle are higher RPM's just like it should. Techron is amazing. I just have to remember to add it on a regular basis.

agreed! --

FWIW, was once advised that its solvent properties also enable it to pass through piston rings and dilute the motor oil more easily than straight gas -- it was recommended that if using techtron prophylactically, I do so a tank or so before an oil change.

funny how steps 5-6 are mutually exclusive/contradictory

-- also, believe they've got it backward on when to add techtron, instructions on the bottle state to add it before fueling so that it will be mixed into the fuel.

What about just using Chevron gas with Techron already in it?

A bit of googling around suggests that the techtron concentration in Chevron (and texaco) gas is around 1/10th the concentration you'd get by adding a bottle of techtron fuel system cleaner to a tank of gas.

Put another way chevron gas= fuel system maintenance, while a bottle of techron = fuel system cleaning

Great info, Gerry.

One through five deal with partially restricted injectors.

Preventative maintenance Step six should have been added as a footnote vs a step in cleaning injectors. Pesky Germans.

Agree on the pre vs post add of techron. Probably small potato(e)s though if sloshed around a few miles.

Did you just fill up your gas before this happened ?

The last time I got a CEL in my daily driver, it was due to crappy gas from some gas station to be avoided forever.
Techron fixed it.

Hi. Had some gas in car already, filled tank to about half, added half bottle of Techron. Anyway, it did the trick pretty fast. Just drove the car a bit ago, still running fine.

I had a 91 BMW 318is before the Pcar and would allways put Chevron 91 octane in it. Every once in a while I would get caught and have to put some other product in it. Car would knock at low RPM allmost immediately. I have never put anything in the Pcar other than Chevron 91.

Techron is readily available but a lot of people also swear by BG44k. Haven't seen it mentioned here in a while though.

Been reading here lately where people have been discussing putting ethanol treatment in their tank at every fill up. Stabil has long had their marine formula (which was what was recommended) and now they also market a product that is specifically listed as ethanol treatment. I've been thinking about starting to go that route.

I went for a drive with some buddies through the North Georgia mountains a couple of weekends ago. Very popular route for bikers. Damned if the service station at the beginning of one of the more popular routes in the middle of nowhere had 93 octane ethanol free. Talk about a place that knows their customers!

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

BG44k is much more aggressive, which is not necessarily a good thing when it comes to fuel systems. You want carbon deposits to break away a little at a time--not all at once.

My uncle has worked for Chevron for over 30 years, in multiple different roles and I have seen first hand engines run on Techron laden fuel vs. the competition. There difference is night and day. Even if you only run it every third tank, you are really doing all you need to in regards to fuel system maintenance/ aside from filter change at required interval.

What's the issue on carb'd cars? Or just not effective?
