Wow DME saved me

Geese just three weeks ago my wife's 1985 911 Euro coupe wouldn't start- cranked OK but no start. I pulled my spare DME from the hand rest pocket - installed - fired right.

Today driving home from work my 1985 911 Targa flat out quite a couple of times while driving. Restarted but ended up quitting before I reached home. Once again, pulled my spare DME from the handrest pocket- installed - and fired right up!!

Dang - gotta love the older air cooled cars!! Less than $70 to fix two cars!!

Great story! That's exactly why every 3.2 Carrera owner should have a spare DME relay in their car.

Speaking of DME issues, anyone have access to wiring blueprints for a 1997 Varioram US market 993. Engine being installed into a 1980 SC chassis and having trouble connecting engine harness, main wiring harness through to the DME. Using PMS conversion bits but still having problems.
Thought we had a 55 pin setup (ROW) and have those wiring diagrams, but alas, the rebuilt motor is a US spec engine as is its engine, chassis harnesses and corresponding DME, ie 88 pin connections. Seeking a link to the 88 pin wiring diagrams.

Funny how the DME Relay has the sound of something ominous and 911 specific like the IMS bearing failing. I keep a few standard Relays in my '95 ranger cause all old relays fail in the same fritzy way. No big deal, few seconds to swap and you're back in business.

Exactly! Had two Nissan pickups fail to crank the starter because of the unlabeled blue relay on the side of the engine compartment.

Relays are awesome protection for switches in your car but they still fall under the heading of "They work right up to the point where they fail."
(Just like everything else!!!)

Or open up the original and re-solder the cracked solder joints.
