What year is this engine?

I am working on a modified 911 (it was converted to a cabriolet and also got a wide body kit).
I would like to know what year the engine is? (the car is supposed to be a 77...?) and also seems like the car had a remote oil cooling system on the right front area but the engine that is in the car has an oil cooler mounted on front of the right cylinder head as part of the engine.
Any information will be appreciated.
Ivan

Engine code 911/82
Serial 6460225
VIN 9117310318

Judging by its VIN number, is the car a 76 or is it a 77? (it was presented to us as a 77). Also was this car supposed to have a remote oil cooler system in the right front area of the car?
Thanks.

The VIN decodes to a 1977 S targa, though the engine is a 76 49 state S.

Was the car (77 Targa S)originally fitted with an remote oil cooler on the right front forward fender area?

Not positive, but the inside fender oil cooler would have been an option. The engine mount cooler was on all engines.

The fender mount cooler is often referred to as a trombone because all it was was a double loop of an oil line, not the fined cooler you are probably think of.

I believe the trombone went on all models starting in 1976. My Euro '77 (rolled out of the factory in maybe August 1976) had the trombone, and the oil thermostat stuff to go with it.

As others have mentioned, every street 911 before the 964 3.6s had the engine mounted oil cooler. A cooler up front was always a supplement to that, but not an option you had to ask for.

Thanks everyone for the info.
There are clear signs (on the right front inner fender there are threaded holes for the oil lines retaining brackets, the area seems to be undercoated, but there are rectangular shapes around the threaded holes) that indicate that the "trombone" was originally installed but was probably removed when the engine was replaced or at at some point.
