A/C, finally!
After many months my A/C on my 85 is working again. I installed a rebuilt Denso compressor, new expansion valve and new dryer. Used my gauges and pump to do a vacuum then added 134A. Just got back from a test ride and I got 52 at the vent on a 80 degree day with high humidity. But I still have a problem to figure out, when the blower is in high it tends to blow the number 2 fuse for A/C blower. I don't even know where to start. Any thoughts? Thanks, Nick

Good job on getting the system going, Nick.
The fuse blowing would indicate high resistance in circuit. For starters, you can try cleaning all of the associated fuse and wire end contacts (including plug and socket at blower motor), butt more than likely, the motor bushings are worn, and the added friction is causing too high of an amp draw. |

What about this thought, the fuses I use are the cheap plastic type that seem to be the only ones you can find at the auto parts store. I notice that in many cases it is not the metal part that breaks but the plastic melts on one side. I remember from my old VW Bug days the same fuses were ceramic. I think I will do a search and try one of those first. The plastic ones are so cheap they are squirt gun material.

I was able to find plenty of ceramic type fuses on Amazon. I will try those first. If that does not help I will move on to the blower. With my A/C working again this is great news! on heatwave days of 100 degrees I will now be able to cool down to 90!!

Nick, if you keep popping the fuse or it shrinks, you may want to consider replacing the fuse block #1 where the blowing/shrinking fuse lays. I had to replace mine due to high resistance there, swapped no more shrinking fuse.

OK Jim, I'll check it out. Man, I made a lot of mistakes working on my AC! I'm not a natural mechanic. But I try!!

Really, the components and parts of our 35 year old A/C systems should look brand new considering that they probably only worked 6 years out of 35!!! Just kidding!!

Don't think fuse "bridge" was mentioned. Not being electrician... I have no idea why this works. (Pic is from Pelican tech.) Your panel have this Nick? ![]()
