Removing rear targa "Porsche" script

How do I remove the rear "Porsche" script on my 86' 911? Some gunk has accumulated behind it and Id like to inspect/clean it

I've heard dental floss works well, it's glued on AFAIK.

no I think he means remove the whole panel so he can clean and inspect it..

Dental floss and take your time. I just removed mine and took it to a local sign shop. They cut a vinyl sticker of the exact same look and size. Clean the paint thoroughly, put down good wax, put on sticker. Put original plastic impossible to wax around and clean area lettering on a shelf. Enjoy easy waxing and cleaning in the future. Save a few grams of weight.

Yes. This is what I mean.

I'm guessing I have to remove the left and right turn signal lenses first But would like advice before I do so. I don't know how tough this 30 year old plastic is.

well I just had my turn signal lenses out and I don't think its there . the studs are directly behind I believe so not sure, eventually someone will chime in .

It's a *****. Usually at least one of the plastic studs will break.

The tail light lenses and housings don't need to be removed. I'd actually recommend you leave them in place to The reflector panel is VERY expensive so remove it very carefully. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT just grab the ends of it and pull. You'll most likely crack the plastic cylinders, or pull off the plastic rectangles, that hold the reflector to the body sheetmetal. Here's what the back side of it looks like



This reflector is attached to the by ten metal anchor clips that bite into the plastic cylinders. There are ten rectangular holes in the sheetmetal that these clips snap into. So the key to getting the reflector off gently is to get behind the sheetmetal and push the clips out of the sheetmetal. You don't want to try to free the plastic cylinders from the clips because the clips dig into the cylinders so well.

To get behind the sheetmetal you need to have the muffler and upper heat shield removed. I just did this last week on my '86 Carrera. So I have a good idea how to do it and also how not to do it.

You really want to avoid flexing the reflector even the slightest bit. Not only is there potential for cracking the reflector, you also disturb the adhesion of the gray paint on the rear of the reflector. When that paint comes away from the reflector, it messes up the "clarity" of the red. See this picture and look closely. You can see there are discolored blotchy areas in the red. That's from the paint coming away from the plastic.
