Shift Sleeve Part Number

The original part # for the 3-4 shift sleeve is 911-302-411-20. However, the Pelican catalog suggest 911-302-411-26. Are these interchangeable? Is the part number updated without a change in the part #? Car is per signature. Thanks.

Not sure about the new number. I have some of original ones.

That is the one I got with new synchro bands 3 & 4, bands are a must brother, don't skimp here. Might as well do 2 & 3 slider and synchro bands while you are at it.

Strangely enough if you put the"20" number you can order that one too. I would call to find out for sure. I have no issues with mine.

The slider and the bands wear together, so you have to change the slider and both brake bands that come in contact with it. Be sure to measure your brake bands to see if they don't excede the diameter, or you will have a VERY though time shifting, not to mention, the dog teeth will eventually begin to break off and that gets really expensive really fast. I'm about to finish one right now actually, and are a little ahead of you:

Ready to torque and seal.

I think the number is actually 911 302 411 27 now. AFAIK, it is the same as 20 and 26. I just needed this for 1/2-gears and accidentally got one for 3/4-gears instead. The difference is that first gear has asymmetrical teeth, but 2/3/4 have symmetrical.

If you search from fvd.de by 20 or 26 number they all lead to 27 part.

Thanks all. Draco - no worries, doing syncros as well. I assume you meant 1/2 slider and not 2/3. Thanks.

I think scary driving is referring to the synchro friction ring/band. Because the actual brake bands themselves (1 & 2 are a one-piece band, whereas 3rd, 4th, and 5th all use the same two piece band setup) reside inside the synchro ring and do not contact the slider ring.

1/2 is also much larger.

My bad, yeap 1-2 slider :-). +1 definitely measure the OD of the bands after install of new synchros.

Thank you Kevin, that is what I meant. Also as a note: Flipping the bands also will increase the diameter of the ring, since the part that now will reside on the inside against the dog teeth ring will be the worn part, hence the ring will seat "further out". Be sure to chech the dog teeth ring for wear or damage, otherwise you might have a not-so-nice surprise when your rings are mounted and you find them out of spec.

Yup, that's what happens. The dog teeth break, the band slips out, hit the triangle that holds the slider on to the shaft (forget the name), and those bits and pieces end up getting chewed by other gears. That one looks extreme. I pulled the transmission when it became hard to engage 2nd gear after changing all mounts, adjusted the shifter and still had trouble with reverse. Being new to porsche ownership, I chose not to take any chances. Caught it just in time. 12 teeth had broken, and the band was starting its way out. No previous grinding, noises, anything, just had to push second gear hard to engage. I'm guessing the PO knew about this and got rid of it fast. No, we had no PPI, this was only last year at the height of the price spike.

Geez only 12? All 25 broke on mine and my 2nd synchro sprung out and broke in 3 places and as a bonus twisted up in the gears, oh the joy $2000 later, all smooth shifting 915 again

My warning was a HUGE POP out of 2nd ( that was the retainer ring letting go)! and no go into 2nd from 3rd or from 1st.

In retrospect, she did warn me with several dogteeth on the drain plug, if I opened the bottom inspection port there would have been more. Fellas, if you see severed dogteeh, she is a warning you
