'86 Power Window Relay?

I'm starting to attempt to sort out the wiring on an early '86 911 that had a fire in the fuse panel area. 5 of the 6 round relay sockets on the panel are completely melted. I need to get the power windows working again before I move on to everything else that doesn't work. I have new relay sockets that I want to splice into the harness at the panel.

diagram 970-42 from the Bentley shows the power window circuits for an '86. Is the 'Power Window Control Unit' in this diagram the 2nd round relay on the panel in diagram 971-1? Or, is this 'Power Control Unit' under the cowl forward of the instrument cluster in the area where the flasher relay is mounted?





From looking at the color coded wires going to the other melted relay sockets on the panel vs. the Bentley diagrams and I thought had identified power window relay in diagram 971-1 through process of elimination.

In my car, the round relay socket on the fuse panel has the following wires running to it:
-(2) different gauge white wires with a green strip
-(1) red wire
-(1) black wire



I'm not seeing white/green stripe wires in the power window wiring diagrams. Does this relay have anything to do with the power window circuit, or is this the 'Not Used' 1st relay on the panel? If this is the power window relay does anyone have the pin mappings for the different wires? This socket is completely melted. I might be able to continuity test and figure the wires/pins out, but I wanted to ask before I cut anything.

I know these cars are all a little different, but do any of the round relays on the panel typically have anything to do with the power windows? I'll poke around some more today to figure out what this socket is for. I'm thinking it could be for an oil cooler fan. Was the 'Not Used' relay in position 1 on the Bentley 971-1 diagram actually present on the panel as a spare, or does that mean it should not be there at all? In some of the old threads I've found here it looks like it was never on the panel.

I am by no means an expert, but I have been fighting a similar battle. One thing that helps me is my factory wiring manual in conjunction with the Bentley, the internet, and anything else I can find.
I have a spare front harness also, complete. Still, I'm fighting every wire. One thing that helps, is the cover for the fuse box, with the fuse and relay notation on it. They are not all the same, some have stickers from the factory for different placement of relays above the fuses. But, it looks like yours might be melted? I do know that I undid the first lower fuse wire, hooked it up to a battery and was able to open and close my windows? Good luck, but yours is definitely doable.

Looking at my scans of the wiring diagrams in the factory manual now and what I am seeing there is consistent with what I am seeing in the car. I'm pretty sure this relay socket on the panel with the white/green striped wires is for an oil cooler fan.

On your first post, the Power Window Control Unit has connections consistent with a relay (30, 85, 85b, 86, 87, etc.) Here is a shot of that relay with all others removed from my 1985. Note that the colors of the wires match your red outlined wiring diagram above.

I see that this is an old thread - will leave this here anyway.

Yours might be wired like a late year 1986 (1987 model) in which those relay positions at the fuse panel are listed in Bentley as:

1. Front footwell Blowers
2. Oil Cooler Fan
3. Cruise Control
4. Horn
5. Fog lights
6. A.C Condenser Blower

I see a White/Green in the Fog Light Circuit paired with Red (Bentley has this as a Brown power feed for this year which I think could be an error; they show Red here for all other years), Brown, and Blue/White. See if that small gauge white wire isn't really a Blue striped one. Is that wire that appears to be Black really just charred Brown? Does it show ground when buzzed with a meter?

The Brown and Blue/White would be smaller gauge and the Red and White/Green would be larger gauge.

UPDATE: I see it ends with "00" which means it's relay for oxygen sensor or Relay for additional blower

Sugarwood, accordibg to the Bentley Manual, it could be the warning chime relay.
