Angry Don't Do What I Just Did

Just performed a valve tappet adjustment, oil/filter change, spark plugs, sync' the the carbs, detail the engine bay....

Trying out Unifilter pods on the webers, I forgot to blank off the breather opening above the oil tank... went for a drive, really enjoyed it and kept driving for an hour.

I now have oil from one end of the engine bay to the other, and one hell of a mess on the garage floor Looks like my "free" weekend coming up is no longer mine.

Apart from this the car runs great!

Whenever I see oil everywhere I try to look at the bright side -
"Well, it won't rust now."

I had a similar incident years back on my MR2 and it started a fire on the highway. Fortunately, I had a fire extinguisher in the car and it was noneventful. Even drove on to my destination w/o a problem.

Think of it as you got luck and don't have any damage. Now go back to the garage and clean that motor.

Just over eager I guess...

Yes Bill, very dry at the moment. The wet season is building and it seems to promise rain each afternoon, but no show to date.

I know it will rain over the next three days though as I have to go into the bush for a 3 day job. It ALWAYS rains just as I'm setting up a camp!

Talk in a few days

It it makes you feel any better. I once did a tune-up on my old Trooper (parts hauler) I used to own. Adjusted the timing yadayadayada.

Let's see how she runs.

I got about a half block before all I could see was my front hood. Yep, I forgot to latch it and it bent the hood and the cowl.

Ouch!!

We proclaim this of ourselves when we're brilliant and also under our breath when we stuff up and "forget to blank off the breather opening above the oil tank" ........ go on, ask him!

k911sc, yep. I'm the Senior Inspector for Far North Queensland (very tropical location), three man crew, mainly surveillance and special investigations (always plain clothes). Same line of work?

bell, Sean has nailed it! My wife reckons I can be a real "know it all" and started calling me it every time I ticked her off (apparently that's all the time these days...)

Did the same thing on an airplane once, and didn't get very far.

One time I forgot to fully tighten down an oil cooler hose on my Ferrari 308 (Weber carbs) and it made quite a mess. I had some cleaning to do.

not a fishcop, but work with the california dept of fish and game often on creek and other waterway mitigation. like working with them but at times they can be difficult. i understand thier intentions, but the intentions can be VERY costly to developers or my agency.

Ahh beaurocracy (sorry don't have a dictionary with me)....

I used to do site surveys and impact statements on all marine sites on the Gold Coast for the government. I know I certainly wasn't popular with some developers.... funny enough, I did have a great rapport with most of the others. I think it's all about professional respect.

Fishcop plays at work too!

Hi John, don't feel bad we have all had an "Oh S**t" once in a while.

John shared some pic's of some very large sharks he catches, these guys were so BIG he could have been trolling a lure the size of his 911, work...ya right!

You North Amreican guys should think about it this way. If you were standing on you head all of the time you would mess up once in awhile too.

Best luck in the brush John, be careful.
