I know Souk has been working on the group buy thing, but does anyone know if any of the potential vendors offer the rear bumper with the additional horizontal louvers like in Erics' picture?

JonT 02-18-2003 06:27 PM

Has anyone got into a front end collision with one of these new f/g bumpers? Are there safety issues to consider here?

turbo6bar 02-18-2003 07:12 PM

The converse to that question...does the stock bumper provide a reasonable measure of safety? I view most bumpers as simple 5mph protection, but I'm not sure if that applies to the Porsche bumpers. I bet a foam-filled fiberglass shell would provide pretty good impact protection, but that's just my opinion.

Well, if you are ever in an accident, that involves speeds greater than 5MPH, chances are, your bumper (stock or fg), fenders and hood all have a chance of getting damaged. Same goes for the rear parts.

If you want the air shock protection of the stock bumper, you can get one of our potential suppliers to fab you a setup for the rear using the pneumatic shocks from the front of your car. If you hit some with your front, well, then you are at fault...so it will seem to most officers that shows up at the scene.

Fact is, if you want protection you can build one into the conversion. You don't need an engineering degree to build it, just some determination. But if you need an engineer, my rate is $125/hr plus travel and lodging. :)

As for the slots in the rear, I'll ask.

lets see how many carrera bodied RUF cars pics we can post

Slider79SC 02-19-2003 12:02 PM

souk,

The yellow Ruf that you posted pics of is for sale...

http://www.racinggallego.com/RUF.html

:D

MotoSook 02-19-2003 01:53 PM

Err, Slider, if I wasn't commited to buying the conversion parts, I would go and get that yellow car.... :) Maybe the folks in the group buy will all pitch in, and we can do a time share on the real RUF Yellowbird. How about it guys?

Anyways, I have new information to add to the info page, so check tonight. It maybe midnight (CST) before I get the update up. I think we are really for a vote guys so please get your wallets out. And those concerned with safety, I have good news too, kinda.

Thanks all for your interests. There were some late ones, but I think we may have 20 (!) now. Wahooo....the CTRWDP lives! :)

MotoSook 02-19-2003 06:40 PM

Ok guys. The last of the prices is in. Please check the Bat Cave. I'll give you tonight to think about it, then I will send out a speadsheet in the morning for us to vote on. The numbers are important as some of the prices require a minimum commitment.

I think all the options are great. There are enough of us to make at least two groups, so our preferences can be satisfied. Thank you all for your interest. It's been a busy couple of weeks for me, and I apologize if this has moved too slowly for some of you.

And! It's not to late for others to join the group and take advantage of the savings. E-mail me, soukus@comcast.net

went to the batcave, would like some pictures on the BW Motorsports ones, so if ANYONE could post 'em it would be great...

MotoSook 02-20-2003 08:15 AM

Bill V has BW Motorsports' Yellowbird parts. I know it will be a pain (10 pages!), but look this thread over again, you will find pictures of his car. If you are looking for more detailed pictures, I think you (we are out of luck).

turbo6bar 02-20-2003 08:23 AM

I'd like to hear opinions from the other 20 or so potential buyers.

I'm not sure which product to choose. None stands out as the best, and they all sound attractive.

MotoSook 02-20-2003 02:43 PM

Sorry I did not send out an e-mail today, but I had an interview come up short notice.

Anyways, here are some pictures pirated from one of the other threads today, in case you didn't notice.

There is a vender in the US with turbo CTR bumpers.

wHERE IS THE LINK T THE BAT CAVE AGAIN?

ipapilot 02-21-2003 10:56 AM

Soooooo, what seems to be the general concensus so far? I kinda like the idea of having a little impact protection. Post your thoughts people!!!

Eric you have a PM.

a quick question:
after looking over the thread it seems that some of the cars (the lime green one is the first to come to mind) have brake duct openenings that are smaller than the fog light opening. one of the cars has two rounds openening which i think deviates too far from the look, but that lime one has smaller square openings. is that a custom fitment on the standard YB bumper?

david
(I want the bumpers too, but i'll have to wait till summertime)

Schuey 02-21-2003 04:55 PM

I'm leaning toward MA SHAW or BW Motorsports b/c of "perfect fit" either would be nice...it seems the BWM may be a "safer" choice b/c of the bumper shocks...but right now I'm game for either of the ones above...I need to see a picture of the BWM's b/f I decide though...could anyone post a picture of these?

MotoSook 02-21-2003 04:59 PM

I wish I could get some BW pictures. I think Bill V is the guy for this, but he installed his so long ago that he may not have any.

Bill, if you have any more pictures, please post them.
