We currently offer the narrow body bumpers in Fiberglass (I posted the pictures of the vented front bumpers here...or you can see it on my web site). The RUF parts (bumpers) were fiberglass. Only the valance came from RUF in polyurethane.
We can do narrow body (SC/Carrera) or Turbo body Yellow Bird bumpers. I don't have a date for when the polyurethane bumpers will be ready. It's a test at the moment. If the process can be perfected, we'll make it available. I just wanted to gauge interest. The R&D needs to be justified. |

My turbo had the real RUF bumper and I am pretty sure it was fibregalss. The spoiler was surely urathane though.

I'd be interested in the Yellowbird in urethane, or even a 930s spoiler in urethane. My fiberglass one gets repaired and repainted a couple times a season, inevitable with a car at a little below "Euro height".

Just got notice that the polyurethane sample will be recieved tomorrow. I'll try to destroy it. Word on the street is that a GT2 bumper was may with relative success. Some fine tuning is needed...it'll all be worked out before anything is released for retail.

Souk,
May I ask what the advantages of urethane are? If they are safer and sturdier in time I would certainly be interested. But it would be a year or two down the road. Where (Ohio?) and when is this Taj thing? It would be cool to meet some of you guys. Rich

Rich,
The urethane will be a lot more durable than the fiberglass part. The urethane will not fracture or splinter like fiberglass. It will flex, bend, fold...I'll take some pictures of the sample when I have it in my hands. I'll put it through some Kung Fu gripping torture ![]() As for the Taj event, it's in Ohio (Dayton). I'm always happy to meet new enthusiasts and share a bit of Porsche passion over a pint of Guiness! I'm still hopeful that I will make it to the Taj event. I need to concentrate of getting one of the cars ready. If I don't make that event, I will probably make the drive to the Sioux City meet that Dane Burns is working on...or heck...the hill climb in Idaho! |

Souk -
Durability would be my least concern for the poly - correct fit out of the box is my main concern. I would never offer a product even if cheaper where the caveat was "Since you are paying half of what a normal bumper costs, fit and finish will be sub-par." WTF? Why bother in my opinion - just offer a product that a good fiberglass man, body man and fabricator combined does not have to spend hours fitting and jiggering to look "half-ass" decent. I have not seen many...any perfectly fitted fiberglass bumpers. That is why my car still has the originals. Offer a bumper that costs 1k front and 1k rear and fits like a glove - so it just requires painting with a qaulity attachment kit (everything you need to mount it) and I am in. The OEM manufacturers do why the hell not the after market? -Jeff

Thanks for the information Souk. Sounds like a great idea. Hopefully I start making some money when you start making these parts.

I spoke with Brad last Friday...we'll be making some progress in the next couple of weeks. I hope that means a prototype will be ready for testing...but this sort of thing never follows the schedule.....
