Can someone just verify something for me-

I was told by a Porsche mechanic that the RUF 17" wheels are only good with a certain brand of Dunlop tire (cannot remember the model) due some problem with fitting/bead issue?
That if an unsuitable tire is installed on these rims there is a potential for the tire to 'peel' off the rim!!!!! ?
Is there any truth in this rumour????
anyone?

Also I am contemplating purchasing a ruf converted 911 with 36K miles on the clock (no ruf wheels) for $38k sound about right?
Car has RUF 5 spd tranny also!.

Very nice car Sameer!

Ben, I don't think your wrench is right. I know someone with non-Dunlop tires on them. Worked well enough at the track...

Edit: don't know about the 38K..seems high, but I've not priced such things lately...besides...I'm building something similar that should total less than 38K. SO for me...too much.

I know the car may not be a total bargain but most of the 930's I have been looking at have been +$35K with higher mileage.
Also the car was professionally converted (engine/tranny) when only 1k miles old!.
5 spd '89 930's are +$40K with low mileage (35K miles).
By the way, Souk have enjoyed all 28 pages of this informative thread! whilst gaining background knowledge on RUF cars!.

This is supposedly a BTR, but the front bumper is ala 964. Can anyone explain as all I have seen in this WHOLE thread are the ones with the big flat on top. As far as I can see, this is not a 964 bumper.

Some of the mid 80s Ruf came w/ the Dunlop Denloc tires and rims. These were also used on 959s and were an early version of a run flat tire.

The official word is no, regular tires should not be used on the Denloc "L" rims.

Unofficially lots of people have done it. At their own risk of course.

Ben,
Not true at all. I've used Bridgestone SO2, Yokohama AVS sport and Falken tyres on my 17 inch Ruf speedline rims with no issues at all, done high speed runs and tracked the car with them. Not a single problem or flat tyre till today, no leaks, no drop in tyre pressure. Nothing at all.

Zeke, a majority of the pictures in this thread are of the Yellow Bird CTR-esque cars. The BTR is just another flavor of RUF cars. They continually developed their cars to follow the intruduction of the 911 models....the BTR you posted is the 964 based BTR....B is something about Group B something or another..it's late and I don't recall it all right now.

As mentioned before , I am looking at an 86 RUF engine/tranny converted car.
Were there different specs for their convertions or were they all the same/similar?.
I know it was a 3.4 displacement increase
Does anyone have details of the other specs the car may be built to?
Pistons/cylinders? Compression ratio?
Cams, Turbo? other diferent specs?
Are there HP/Torque figures published?

I also had issue with insurance and modification.
I did not offer the info but they did ask and were not prepared to insure a modified car.
So any help with RUF friendly insurance companies would be a help.

Ben, the engine might be from a BTR. "Rarelyl8" posted a thread about a BTR in Champaign, Illinois..try searching for the thread. You might also check for a serial number on the engine, then contact RUF.

ssetek, Some just paint the reflector...but don't do it if you have the black PORSCHE letters..they are NLA and worth $$..find a used red letter reflector....(and I'm still interested in talking to you..I've just been booked)

not sure if you are talking about this rear reflector, If you are they are still available thru Ruf.de They cost a fortune. 300+ euros.. as i recall.

EDIT: I've found out the hard way. With this epoxy, really any, directions need to be followed to the letter: surface prep and clamping. Some epoxies are forgiving, this one is not.

I recently put the RUF mirrors on my Carrera for weight savings and they look pretty cool. More useful than I though they would be just take a little getting used to.

My body guy declined using the adhesive in favor of black super adhesive double sided tape - they are not going anywhere and you don't have to deal with all the adhesive glue mess - plus removal for whatever reason is alot cleaner.

They are on there really strong plus they only weigh ounces - (featherlight) huge weight savings over the factory flags. I chased down all of the wiring (which is alot) in both doors as well.

Really cleans up the car, gets rid of alot of wind noise and are pretty functional.

I got them from Andrew at Weissach Performance in Canada.
