Oil all over engine and pouring out when engine heated up and running.
I just got my 911 sc out of service having the fluids changed. Nothing too involved but the mechanic did clean up the engine and tighten the valve covers as well. Just FYI, the car has Weber carbs. When I got the car back it started and ran fine. About 10 miles down the road as the engine heated up the car began to smoke like crazy from underneath so I pulled over and cut the engine. Oil was pouring onto and past the headers and smoking. When I opened the engine bay it and the engine were covered in oil. I assume wherever the leak is-oil was not just dripping downward---oil had sprayed everywhere like on the carbs, plug wires etc. The car has been towed back to the mechanic but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.

Guess he overfilled it, eh? 10 qt w/filter is safe. Did he drain both the tank and the engine case before adding oil?

That's what I was thinking.Oil indicator was at the top. Is it possible to hurt the engine?

Where would the most likely leak location when overfilled be?

Out the breather hose that connects just in front of the oil fill cap. No harm done, other than the mess. Does this guy work on 911s much?

Usually from the fill tube vent on the oil tank fill tube. If you look where you put the oil in there are usually a couple of lines that run into the side of it, one to the case breather the other to vent the pressure and or access oil. Been there done that. It can happen if your 1. mechanic checked the oil level while it was cold and filled to the full line once warmed up properly the oil expands, or 2. forgot to drain the oil tank and just added 10 quarts with out checking it.

Does the "mechanic" know that the oil level is checked on a hot engine while idling?

Sometimes the oil filter is loose, or the old gasket is stuck to the car. Twin gaskets can work for a while, and then blow out.

And you get to rebuild those carbs again because guess where some of that oil has ended up? I once found the air filter housing full of oil to the brim ...
