The Founder Must Part Ways

Well ladies and gentlemen, it has been a blast.
I need to sell my baby. I know, I know... can you believe it?
Believe me when I say that this has been the root cause for more than a few sleepless nights.
I've thought long and hard on the subject and have come to one conclusion. To get me and my lovely wife, where we want to be, it will require being Porscheless for a while.
This is by no means, the end. And trust me, you will probably be seeing more of me even after she is gone.

I'm sad, but if losing my prized possession will help ensure that Erin and I have an easier start at married life, then I am all for it.

I will miss my car horribly, but in the end... it is only a car.

So, with this being said, I first would like to make it known that I hereby appoint Doug Zielke as the new leader of the faithful.
I know he will carry on the tradition of name calling and general unpleasantness towards Carrera owners and the like.

Second, I would ask you all, my Pelican brothers (and sister) that if you know anyone who might be interested in the best d@mned SC on earth, to please get in tough with me.
Someone is going to luck out bigtime... I can only pray that the next owner of my baby takes good care of her and sends me postcards at Christmas.

Well, that was pretty hard to say... believe it or not.
Again, do not think I will abandon the Marque, I keep trying to think of this as a temporary thing.

Love you guys,

Lee,

Sorry to hear that you are going to leave the SC group but the rest of us know that you are only making way for a Carrera to sit in the garage!

Find something better and soon! Our thoughts and wishes are with you and your family always...

Joe

Here's my [similar] story and a follow-up. I sold my Corvette to buy the engagement ring I gave to my (now) wife. She appreciated the sentiment and the true cost. Later, when we were in our house and I completed my Master's degree, she returned the favor and bought me a new 'Vette. She knew how tough it was to give up my car, appreciated being more important to me, and repaid in kind when the time was right. Today she is very supportive of my Porsche addiction - 'cause I proved that as much as I love and cherish my cars, she is more important.

See - it was really just a mercenary plot! Muhahaha.

Wanting to catch the attention of the love of his life, a man walks several thousand miles to the ocean. There, he boils sea water to make salt (it's an old story and salt had value), and returns to the object of his affections. "But you had to walk all that way to get this...!" she said. "The trip is part of the gift" was his reply.

Leland, I respect and admire a great many things about you. I only hope you will keep your promise to stay in touch with us. I still intend to meet you one day. Please accept my best wishes for a happy married life.

Jim

Leland,

911's can always be replaced (especially common SC's ) and, I'm sure its nothing compared to the pain that was involved in having to part with a truly irreplaceable vehicle like the Pimpster...

Good luck to both of you.

Tim

Leland, you are doing the right thing. I know it isn't going to get easier just because a "stranger" agrees with your decision, but, family comes first.
You also picked the right one to carry the torch while you are between SC's. Doug will no doubt continue to do the SCWDP proud.
Best of luck,
Gary

Somebody better be gettin' some serious lovin' for the gesture he's making!!!

No biggie. There's all sorts of 911's out there and you're now more than capable of finding a good replacement in the future.

hey, if *I* managed to get another 911, it will be a piece of cake for Leland.

There's always another car...we try not to think that way with wives

I agree with the others.

Long term you're making the most intelligent decision. Family must come first. Even the best teams step back and punt sometimes. Just gives them better field position for the next series of downs.

You're still young, just the first quarter so to speak. There will be many other opportunities to replace the car later if you desire.

Good luck.

Even though we have not met yet, I have admired you from the perspective of this board since I joined. You have shown yourself to be mature and unselfish in every situation you have shared w/ us, and I am betting the farm that a lot of good is coming for you. We crazy car nuts dream about Porsches, especially when we are Porsche-less, so it just means that the next one will be better. Stay in touch w/ us, please.

Good decision, of course, Lee. Cars are fun, but Erin is forever.

You'll have another 911 before you know it.

I know how you feel, but your making the right decision. I sold my Carrera so we could buy our House, I know I didn't feel nearly as bad as you do for having to sell an SC, but I feel your pain. No regrets though. You'll get another one.

Keep posting on the board, I think everyone has gotten alot of laughs from your past posts and your presence here would be missed.

Damn, but I'm going to miss the insults, even if I know it was only an outward demonstration of your jealousy, insecurity and inadequacy at owning an sc instead of a CARRERA

I know it hurts, but theres always another car and the next one will be faster, more reliable and will benefit from your experience with this one.
