Then it's just a matter of lining up all of the ribs and hammering them in place. For most ribs I squeeze the area that the tab goes into and there's a lot of back and forth trial fitting the ribs to see if the ribs are squeezed too much or not enough, etc. Once they are all snugged while on the decklid, each rib is hammered in place. It's easy to see when they are not all the way down on the tabs and it takes quite a lot of time to hammer partially between the tabs so everything goes in place evenly.
It was windy outside so only took a few quick shots.

Thank you Gentlemen, appreciate the kind words.
Cevan, I hope to launch my own "reimagined" cars next year and have something special planned for the decklid grill. It's all in the details.

That's beautiful dude!
After all that work, it must be nerve racking to use a hammer anywhere near the grill for the final steps!

Shaun,
I know it is almost 3 years from the last post but this "art work" on this '69 deck lid grille is just awesome! Are you still doing this work and what will be the cost? Thanks, Jose |

This is superb work!
Sadly I am overseas and the tall grill to rare to ship so I have to try it with local sources. Is there a thread like this for a 64-67 rear lid grill? Thanks and again it fabulous what you do. Richard

Thank you Richard, I love doing these grilles. I am working all of these right now as a matter of fact.
I agree with you on the rarity of the tall rib grille, so much that I would only hand deliver. The trick in doing these is making your own tooling to straighten and recurve the ribs. And making your own rivets and a few other things. Good luck in having yours done. ![]()
