Question Help in installing an ΄73 Aluminum dash trim

Dear Friends

I need help to install this Aluminum dash trim from a ΄73 model in a ΄78 model
Bassicaly I bought this parts from pelican

Pelican Parts - European Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche • BMW • Mercedes • Volkswagen • Audi • Saab • Volvo • MINI

And I wonder If I have to remove the existing foam pad that is in the car right now?

This dash trim set is only for the bottom part of it, so I wonder how the top portion (for instance the center one where the fog switch the defrost and the cigarette lighter ) will be? SInce the foam pad add a lot of thickness for the assembly of those switches and now when I remove the foam pad they will be on the car΄s sheet metal

Same thing for the ignition key side, where (the ignition key, the hazard switch and the head light switch ) they all rely on the thickness of the foam pad for finishing

Thanks for the help

Foam comes off. You will need to backdate the switches as well in order to get proper fitment. I’ve done this 3 times now.

You will also need backdated air controls. Your air control box will no longer fit
