Oil line hose from engine to thermostat

Hi, my hose crimps are toast so just for fun I cut out the crimps and I see great place for hose and clamps.
The thermostat oil line removal freaks me out so for now maybe I can just replace the hose portion.

What size is this hose and where can one buy it?
Thank you.

Few pics

what a freakin mess !!!!! ( love the Tims product placement tho )

I don't have a 77 and that does not look familiar at all , but any hydraulic shop like rubberline should have hose and fittings, even be able to crimp your original line.

Measure the inside diameter of the existing hose. It's likely going to be 22mm.

Len the resident oil line guru & fabricator (BoxsterGT is his username) is probably going to chime in here and advise against using basic hose clamps.

I really don't see a reason why clamps wouldn't work here, the ends are grooved and two clamps on each side will work well.
Plus no more concerns about the crimps not holding, just tighten as needed.

Off course, I can be convinced otherwise.
This thing has been a money pit so far(aren't all cars?) and trying to save some money and not open another task to do as I feel little bit overwhelmed at the moment with all the things I have to do.

Just be sure to use clamps that capture the hose uniformly. I would not use the typical worm gear slotted hose clamps. Use a smooth clamp that crimps. The crimp style clamps afford you some flexibility in that the crimp acts like a spring and can deal with change in temperature and hose size. Whereas typical screw type clamps are fixed and don't "react" well to change in hose size.

I like the single crimp clamps that have a tongue and groove in their design.

You are talking about a hose for the lifeblood of your engine. To use anything but a proper clamp is crazy. It that fitting fails it will dump all the oil in a heartbeat and the engine will not have a heartbeat for long.

Hey, it is your engine, you take whatever risk you can live with. I would not do it with my engine.

Elephant racing hands down, great service from Chuck, anything they don't stock Stoddards have even the less common fittings.
Find a hydraulic shop with a Cohline swage machine to do it properly...do not settle for less.

I may be able to help. Here is an example of what I offer for a Re-Hose of an original.......

Alternatively, I can send you the loose crimp sleeves and a length of the correct hose if you want to do this locally.

Hose clamps will work even the worm gear types if you use 2 per connection, one in reverse direction of the other. I had to do this once and it lasted for years. There was a period of time when the after market replacement hose was 1 inch too long (imagine something too long being bad) and the replacement was the same. It create a kink and not a good fit. In a bind, I cut the hose and use 2 clamps.
