Dennis, The weather this morning was in the 60’s nice and cool. And at noontime it was 80°F. Perfect weather for the fall season. I strongly recommend people to come to the WORKSHOP in your work clothes because you will be doing a lot of hands on work disassembling and assembling the motors. I will provide pens and notebooks. Use your phone camera to capture some of the special tools I use to get the job done. You are welcome to copy or improve them. While I have your attention, the venue will be moved back to the old address (across McDonald on De Kalb Pike/Route 202). In the 3 previous Engine Rebuilding Workshops attended by more than 100 (total), I only noticed a couple guys who reluctantly participated. But after some encouragement, and overcoming their anxiety, they finally got involved in the process. Like I said many times, I want you to come to the Workshop with a positive attitude. Your fear and anxiety about engine rebuilding will be gone by the time you go home. Looking forward to meet you guys. Tony |
Hi Tony and fellow participants,
I just wanted to say how much I'm looking forward to the workshop. Tony, thank you for putting another round of these on. I sure appreciate it. Looking forward to meeting everyone and diving in. If anyone in the 9/23-24 class needs a local ride to/from the venue, I'll have a rental car and am happy to help. Just reach out via DM. Cheers, Robert |
PM sent for 9/16 class
Sent PM for 9/16-9/17 class to Tony!

Hyatt House

The Venue..…..
Quote:
The venue is a short walk from Hyatt House and directly across McDonald Restaurant. My wife have a list of places to go for lunch or dinner around the neighborhood that will be provided at the first day before lunch. Just don’t take too long to eat because we have a lot of things to discuss about engine disassembly for first day. Tony |
do you suggest renting a car at the airport or is UBER a better solution for this class?
|
Quote:
Chuck, Have you considered taking the train from the airport to Center City and make a transfer to Norristown Line? And finally call Uber for a short ride to venue. But this could take too much time compared to the 40 mins. drive by car from airport to venue. Have you checked with the other guys in your group about sharing a ride considering your arrival times? Tony |
Tony, I have not considered the train, us Southern boys are not too familiar with them for city commutes. I will talk to them and figure out the best way. chuck

Hey Tony, looks like i'll be there for the , September 26-27
see you soon Ian |
I am going to be unable to attend Sept 19&20 Class. If anyone wants to take over my slot, contact Tony or me.
John |
Tony, for 19-20 Class this TH Friday - I expect most will arrive WED afternoon and evening. Do you have a recommendation for a local restaurant or "joint" should those so inclined might gather and swap car tales and a beverage or two with pub food? Asking for a friend :)
|
Tony, thank you so much for the class. It was such a great and informative time, but the best aspect was demystifying some of the parts of a rebuild. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn more about their Porsche.

Dinner……..
Quote:
The September 16-17 Group had a nice dinner at an Italian Restaurant (Bacco) organized by Jonathan Dunn. There are several good places I could recommend but you have to decide the type of food you prefer. If you need company, I could join your group today. Just PM me. BTW, we had some minor problem at the end of the day when we were doing the cam timing. I have never had participants in the past like this group. Some of the guys stayed late (very late) to find the culprit. They volunteered to do the work with me because I have to get the motor ready for the next group. It is amazing how these guys transformed from totally beginners to capable investigators in such a short time. And they succeeded. The motor is all READY FOR TOMORROW’s participants. Hope to see you later today. Tony |
Thank Tony, loading the car now for the drive to Philly. Looking online, for those attending if you get in early enough, planning on dropping in at Capones for dinner before retiring to my room to study the repair manual so I don't look like an idiot. Looking forward to the class.
|
If anyone from the SanFrancisco Bay Area is attending (or has attended), please PM me.
As much as I'd like, I cannot attend. I understand, but am sad, this is the last batch of classes Tony will offer :( I think there's a rebuild project in my future so it'd be great to find a local Pelican reference. |

Where did you get this information? I don’t recall making an announcement about retiring from teaching. But I have reduced the number of participants from 5 groups to 4. As of today, 3 registered participants for the 2024 Fall WORKSHOP have informed me that they could NOT attend for personal reasons. I will do my best to set up a small group considering these people who missed the 2024 Workshop in the next event. When? I have no idea. It all depends on the number of interested people and on my physical ability to cope with the work needed to get this done. Meeting new friends and spending 2 memorable days doing things we have in common is a dream come true. The transformation in a short time is beyond belief. You don’t get this satisfying feeling watching instruction videos. Tony |
That is great to hear Tony!

Good Morning Shaun! Why are you up this early? I was very exhausted after working more than 20 hours in 2 days and slept most of time yesterday (Wednesday). I woke 2 hours ahead of my alarm clock (5:00 AM) and was wide awake. So I went to PP Forum to pas the time. Can’t wait another opportunity to start the next group of people at 8:00 AM. Tony |

Good morning early risers!
I'm up because I need to write a story for the 356 Registry. |
Those of us who cannot attend this great workshop are envious. Even more envious when we hear about the fine Philly Italian dinner festivities!
Cheers to all. and thanks to Tony and the Mrs for organizing this event! |

Just rolling in for day two here outside of Philly. Fortunate to have a really great group, and Tony has been phenomenal in demystifying tear down processes. Of course I am a master of disassembly already, but his insight and tips are invaluable. Today we build with the goal of no left over parts and fastners. Curious to see if my growing confidence is changed by the end of the day. Great class!
|
Looking forward to this class!
I am concerned however that when my wife tracks my phone she will see that I am spending two solid days at the "Heavenly Spa" |
Completed Tony's class today and it was awesome experience. Great group of fellow 911 enthusiasts coupled with Tony's excellent expertise == a great learning experience. An added bonus is I passed his class - well I think I did. Highly recommended!!
Tony - thank you very much for the class! Also, thanks to you wife for her support! -Dennis |

Agree 100% with Dennis. This is the kind of event the recharges the motivation level for me within the community. We were blessed with a great mix in the class with varied experience, and all made the experience that much better for me. It was an interesting transformation for me - and perhaps dangerous to some extent. Tony has a gift for a mix of technical understanding of the motors and old fashioned McGyver "figure it out" work ethic. His collection of both self made and Stomski tools, and Tony tricks and techniques will save 100s of hours of research for those WTF head-scratching moments.
Thanks to all of the other attendees who for me, made this event all the better. Collectively, I am not sure we left many questions unasked - just a great group of Pelicanites. Recommendation for the next round of attendees, go on Stomski's website and watch the videos on setting Top Dead Center, and the process top time the Cams and set the valve clearance. This will give you a good foundation that Tony will build on - by the end, the group was trouble-shooting and resolving some "oh crap moments" - which builds confidence and more importantly, familiarity with every engine component on the long block. I even know was some of the doohickeys and whatchamacallits are now. So thank you Tony - this is something I will talk about for a LONG time as one of my favorite 911 events.Dennis, Lash, Ross, JT and Kenneth - thank you all as well - just a great group to work with. As a challenge - and for the record, Tony said we were the best group, EVER. And we were able to make enhancements by lightening the engine with a handful of left-over parts. Good luck and enjoy the fantastic even. |
A big thank you to Tony! What a wonderful class and great experience! For those who haven't yet taken this class, you will love it. Now if we can only convince Tony to do a similar class on CIS. Hint, hint....
Ross |
Tony,
Thank you for this opportunity to attend one of your Porsche 911 engine rebuilding classes. We did have a great group of guys in the class (9-19/9-20). We did ask a lot of questions, you either answered them or had us figure out the problem ourselves which is a great teaching tool. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and please thank your wife for being so accommodating. Lash |
Class of 9/23-24, any of you folks want to grab a drink this evening?
Where’s a good place to meet? |
Flight delays
@SFR - would love to meet up this evening, but am still stuck at the airport. Now saying departure at midnight with arrival at PHL at 1:40. Ugh. Looking forward to the class tomorrow (assuming I can eventually get there). I’ll be the guy with the coffee IV …
|
Class on the 26-27th, I’ll be arriving Wednesday if anyone is interested in meeting up for dinner please let me know. I was able 2 find an PM two of you off screen name but no luck with the others

Need Some Company?
Quote:
Mark, I will be at the venue on Wednesday afternoon doing the final prep for the last group. So if you need some company, let’s have dinner together plus others. Set the time and place you want to meet and I will be there with my wife. There so many nice places to go for dinner around the area. Tony |
Hi Tony that sounds great. I hoping to arrive a little before 5pm and I will reach out then. Driving over from Dayton OH.
