Supply and demand. Looks like I can sell my slot for twice what I paid.

But Sorry guys, excited for my slot weekend. For those that attended the first round, any tips for us? I got the book, I'm bringing a camera and I'll make sure to get a good night's sleep. is there a place to get coffee near by or do we need to bring our own thermos? Same for lunch, did everyone pretty much pack their own and hung out during the break?

I've been avoiding this thread for the last 3 months...because....anyway..... I am interested in a June or July date. Put me on your PM list Tony for those upcoming dates.

Mcdonalds directly across the street and a ton of restaurants around for lunch. I would figure out how to take pictures and align them with notes. A picture will get you so far and a picture with good notes is really what you need.

Any opportunities for more weekend classes in the future? Weekdays are difficult for me. Also, was anyone able to make a video recording? I know there was some discussion about this. I would love to attend over the summer and would be interested in trying to find a solution to recording the class.

First engine rebuilding sessions.........

To everyone,

Thanks to the first group of guys that attended the inaugural Engine Rebuilding Classes. While it was considered a success, there is plenty of room to do a better and efficient engine teardown/rebuild demonstration. The participants were very helpful and enjoyable to spend the two-day sessions. I could not have asked for a better bunch of fun loving people to get this program started. It was a great experience for me.

I am not a trained Porsche nor a professional mechanic. Just another DIY’er who has enjoyed working with my cars. And have a satisfactory success in rebuilding more than a dozen SC engines with the help from other Pelicanparts members. My primary objective in having these engine rebuilding classes is to share my limited experience and to help other people over come the anxiety which most people have in their minds.

The positive reactions of people wanting for summer sessions is overwhelming. At this point, my main focus is to finish the April 2018 sessions and make them better as we proceeed with the program. The logistic of setting the venue and transporting the engines, tools, chairs, tables, etc. is a nightmare for an old guy like me. Without the help from my wife and son, I could not accomplish any of these.

The next sessions would be a 4-day stretch and hope to survive it. If there will be a next time, I will make it a 2-day session then a break. Last night, I was falling asleep while finishing my dinner and went straight to bed. Woke up fresh and motivated. Thanks.

Tony

Can these be recorded or streamed? Happy to pay for the vids. At the very least you could record/resell down the road, but not to record them seems like a travesty!

Just my opinion and I am not going to say it is impossible. But, with a group of this size all jockeying for position trying to see what is going on I think it would be rather difficult to video the classes.

Video recording was brought up in earlier posts and it was decided that making anything that was anywhere near professional would be difficult to do at the same time as teaching the group and also would hinder the learning and teaching flow to the group.

You could set up a stream and host a chat room at the same time. Have a partner run the chat room and que the questions. Limit the audience to a small group so that it would flow. Establish ground rules for submitting questions and do a webinar. Charge $$ to make it worth your time and you have a 2nd or 3rd revenue stream. A couple classes would pay for the production equipment. Just a thought. Seems like the appetite is there for customers. I'd pay.

That's a great idea but I think would work better on it's own. Not as part of this class. The way it is set up now I just don't see how it could work. For your idea to work I think the tear down and reassembly would need to be performed in stages, stopping after each procedure for Q&A. This setting just kept on moving.

x10

Our session was way too informal to record. We were constantly asking questions, getting in each others way, changing positions while working on the engine/getting tools/whatever. This was 100% hands on not a lecture and just like some friends working together in the shop. Things might change in the future, I trust Tony, but that was session 1. Great job Tony, it was obvious you put a ton of effort into this. Well done.

I stayed in a hotel a few miles from the venue, some traffic but easy to navigate the area. I'm happy to answer any questions if its helpful. PM me.

You could .....

I'd pay.
Unfortunately, there are a lot more things in life that "you could" do than there are people who want to do it.

Tony is offering an astonishing opportunity for those that can attend. I think the only appropriate response is gratitude. He's working himself very hard to make this happen, and to ask for more isn't right.

If you'd like to make your vision a reality, you could do that. I encourage you to do so. But that's not this.
