x-faktory project: 73 ...3.2 to 3.6 EFI/ITB, Rasant/AEM/Infinity
Hot on the heels of Rick's 3.0 project,
x-faktory 911SC 3.0 w/EFI/ITB I am working on another great EFI project. This is another of my local buds, Chris Nielsen's, 73 911 Targa. Already a really great 911 with 3.2 motovation. When we 1st started discussing the project, the plan was to EFI the 3.2......but Chris had this excellent 3.6 lying around and....one thing leads to another..so now, it's out with the 3.2 and in with the 3.6 with PMO EFI/ITBS and Rasant/AEM/Infinity controlling the beastly power. 1st things 1st....out with the puny 3.2.... Next....install all of this stuff...... Stay tuned.... regards, al

Looking good Al!
I am really looking forward to watching this project come together and even more excited to get behind the wheel! Not sure what I am going to do with the 3.2 at this point. It's a fresh rebuild 3.2 with cams, SSI's, backdated heat etc. it's a perfect motor in an early car. But, as Al mentioned, I had an opportunity to use the 3.6 long block so I opted to keep the 3.2 in one piece.

My early targa would scream for mercy under the torque of a 3.6. I would just not hear it due to earplugs. Keep going.

Take a second look at how clean the engine and engine bay are....this is a clean machine!
While the 3.6 implant will be stellar.............The 3.2 runs very well. regards, al

Another Nielsen special. Looking forward to seeing/hearing this one in the wild, Chris. Nice work, as usual, Al.

Great decision on the 3.6, you will be very happy. ITB looks great and throttle response is nice as well, looks like you are doing COP and a backdated fan?

Al will probably chime in about the COP (coil on plug).
Yes, we are backdating the fan/housing. The cooling is more efficient with the earlier fans as opposed to the 964 fans. I also want a more period correct look.

Looks great!
This will be the second time I have backdated a 3.6. We went a bit further with the last one and even backdated the valve covers.

one step closer to fire!
The 3.6 is together and ready to be installed......need to install new clutch cable, vacuum and fuel lines and other misc....the Rasant/AEM/Infinity is installed and routed into the engine compartment and is just hanging around....waiting for a 3.6 to hook up to.
stay tuned......should fire up about mid-next week or so. regards, al

Different motor Gordon. The one you are talking about is currently installed in my ST. The motor for the Targa was originally from an RSA 3.6 that raced at Sebring. After Al finishes his magic, I'll have to get it on a chassis dyno and see what the stats are.
