R Gruppe Palms to Palms II run.

Since the Early S board is down I hope you don't mind if I share some pics of todays R Gruppe run.

A small wolf Pac of R Grp cars met at 5:30am Sunday and enjoyed a spirited drive from San Clemente to Palm Springs. The drive is 110 miles and normally would take 2 hours. In the middle of the Cleveland nation forest near Idyllwild one of the cars broke a throttle cable. So we all waited over an hour for the flatbed to arrive and return the car to Pasadena. Then with traffic building we continued to Palms Springs. One speeding ticket. Dave got hit with the radar gun by a ranger heading the opposite direction on the two lane highway. Only wrote him up for 70 thankfully.
Enjoy the pics.

Curtis in the right lane in black 88 backdated beauty with 3.6 power. His thottle cable is 5 minutes from breaking. bummer.
Dave Buhaine on the left in the white RS bodied early 911 has a 3.6 too. Dave races with the So Cal POC.
Fun trying to stay with these guys.

Waiting for the flatbed, the black car in the background busted the throttle cable.

The 3.6 in the 88? back dated car to look like an early RS, very nice. Except at this moment the gas pedal was not conected to the throttle body.

Curtis and his backdated 88 with the 3.6.

My host with the most, the red rooster, John Risvold.
3.2 power, ready for the track with new roll bar, seats and 5 point harnesses. Oh and a 2nd set of 16x7 and 9 inch Fuchs with fresh Kuhmo Victor racers too.

Ray and his sweet S with a fresh 2.7.

A real RS, was quite fun to have the real thing running with us. As the flat bed tow truck driver was walking past it he asked "is it real" uh yeah you know what it is??

Stacy and his perfect example of an early S.

Andy and his hot rod, we got a work out passing everyone on the way home. Some drivers were so rude, as you pass on the two lane highway several seemed to speed up and try hang you out in the opposite direction lane. Nice.

My 69 with a 3.2, 2200lbs was fun with Kuhmo Ecsta 245/40/17 and 275/40/17 tires. Gave me some hope of staying with the 3.6 crowd.

Hope you got out with your 911 this weekend too.

A Great time...

was had by all, well except for maybe Curtis....who had to endure the broken throttle cable and ensueing flatbed ordeal....and then perhaps Dave B. too could have done without that "personal attention" he received from officer friendly....

But I gotta say that I had a great time...I guess my low point would have to be getting caught on film "pumping ballest" LOL!!

The Hemet police were on us from minute #1 when we entered their juristiction..........maybe it was because it was right after a roving wolf pack of early hot rod 911's were screaming down the 215 fwy at a buck thirty? maybe...maybe not In anycase they basically escorted us thru town right along side us. With a final unit hiding at the end of town with his radar on & ready.

Being with other 911 owners and really driving our cars...that's what it's all about. Only thing that could top times like this would be to do it on the track...but that's coming

Cheers!!

Thanks for the pics Ted! Those are some sweet looking cars. John, your car is looking great with the correct doors/sills. That early black coupe looks kinda familiar I guess I could pretend that it was my car in the lineup

Looks like a good time, I'm curious about the throttle cable. Was it the often refered to "weak link"

as seen in that thread and in most 3.6 upgrades?

Just read the other thread on the Palm Springs run, apparently the cable broke in the tunnel so the above is irrelevent.
