New starter now I have ignition problems

I just replaced the starter on my 77 911 race car and now the engine will not fire. The car was running fine before the starter replacement. I have an Electromotive dual spark set up. The engine turns over and there is fuel in the carbs, but no fire. I have power at the electromotive four pin connector from the starter post. Ideas?

Hi.
A tip: you should not provide power to the Electromotive from the starter, get it directly from the battery, more reliable and safe for the electronics inside the Elctromotive unit.

Was the old starter toast or did it somewhat work? If it did work, you might swap it back to see if the issue goes away. Did anything else change with the install? How are your grounds?

The old starter was working...I am checking the ground. If that doesn't work, I will replace to old starter. Stay tuned!!!

Sounds defective. May want to contact a shop that can test it.

Maybe the new starter pulls too much power and the ignition can’t fire on what’s left? Maybe check voltage while cranking.

This may be a stupid question but sometimes stupid questions helps to clarify the problem. You're sure the new starter was turning the engine over, right? I'm only asking because I've seen threads where people had issues when changing starters motors where the new pinion was not fulling engaging the ring. Any way you could bench test the new starter?

Assuming it's not a mechanical problem with the starter motor, that only leaves electrical. In that case, I think Rutager may be on to something.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

Yes. The motor is turning over with the new starter. Maybe I can use another battery to fire the ignition.

I would use the second battery as a test.

Yes. The alternate wire and the battery wire are attached. The ignition wire is also attached at the starter terminal.
