vent window won't open
Hi 912 ers
I have a 1966 912 (newly acquired) that has been modded into a R style. The vent windows look fully operational, but the levers won't move at all. There may be a tiny pin in them. Is this a known thing? Is there a way to make them operational again? Also, the driver's window goes down easily, but wants to go off track going up. Is there a simple fix for this? The felts feel okay... So excited to be a fellow 912 owner the queen

Good looking 912 Queen!
The pre-'68 912's have a button that you have to press to open the vent window. It's in the center of the lever. If it's covered with a black rubber/plastic, it's been updated to the '68 part.(no lock) I've seen where people will seal the vent window to prevent potential theft issues. Try moving it by hand to see if it's somehow secured. It should have a bit of play . The tiny pin holds the lever to it's shaft. Welcome to the 912 world. Having a type Vl back there is a nice upgrade in torque.

OK I am a total goober..I didn't realize that I needed to push the button....once I depressed it, the window opened easily...ha ha ha - amazing that I couldn't figure this out. Thanks - still working on the manual window coming off it's track. thanks all

One other thought: check the track mounts in the door. Since it looks as though a lot of work has been done, the track my be loose/improperly installed.

I took the outer door panel off. There is an inner metal panel that is bolted to the door. Behind that the window seems stable in the rail, but when the window is all the way up the front part of the mechanism feels fine. as I crank it down the front part of the mechanism becomes very wobbly while the rear part of the mechanism feels stable. by the time it is 3/4 way down, the front metal frame can noble almost an inch side to side....i took photos if needed

This 'imprint' makes it look as though the window is loose in its rail (or has been repositioned in it).
![]() Does the glass exhibit any 'rocking' as it is lowered? With the glass half way down can either fore/aft upper edge be lifted any amount more than what could be considered normal wear and tear? If everything seems tight, the inclination of the window with respect to the lift can be adjusted (but it seems something else is amiss): ![]() |

SO when half way down, yes the fore end of the glass can be raised about 3/4 inch but also can wiggle even more side to side. I also noticed that the glass appears fairly curved especially the front. More than being able to be raised, though, the glass jumps the track to go inside as soon as it is raised an inch or two and by halfway up cannot be put in track unless I lower it almost all the way and guide it manually onto the track. It really wants to bow with the front end inward....

In the picture above with your hand, and finger at edge of glass.... There is a bolt visible from the outside surface adjacent to your hand... this is an adjustment device .... you may be able to loosen it and adjust the window frame to be closer to the glass. this will get rid extra movement.... you may have to play with moving the parts around and possibly use some washers to shim the frame closer to the glass...
