Sort of OT: Anyone know how to get a hold of Jay Leno

Okay West Coasters...

I've written a nice letter to the folks at Panorama and Excellence about Dave "Korijo" and everyone's noble efforts in the "motorized wheelchair and van fund". I expect we'll be hearing from those fine folks soon.

Next idea... get a hold of Jay Leno somehow.

He's a car nut, and I'm sure he's got some connections in the car club industry.

At any rate, I'd like to send a letter to Jay and tell him about our efforts, and see if he can get involved in someway (i.e., hook us up with some more Porsche enthusiasts, help us with a fundraiser by making an appearance, donating a Lambo for Korijo, who knows)! It doesn't hurt to ask, right?

I can send the letter the regular old way to 3000 West Alameda, Burbank, CA, but somehow I'd like to get it in Jay's hands, or at least in his assistant's hands, not some $6.00/hr clerk at NBC.

Anyone know a fax #, e-mail, other address???????

If you got an idea, send me a PM or e-mail me at kellzey@iepg.com.

Thanks,

Okay... I've since found out that Jay is not a big fan of German cars... What about Jerry Seinfeld?

Thanks!

Seinfeld loves Porsches! I saw him up at Laguna Seca in 98 when Porsche was the Marque. He was on the ground looking up under the Golf 917. There is allways POrsche stuff in the background of his show also.

Not that I can help with contacts, but Letterman and Paul Newman are big race fans. PN especially loves a good cause.

Letterman and Newman are race fans? Geez, no one tells me anything. Here I was thinking that PN quit racing because his wife told him to, and Letterman is a "big" minority owner in Rahal's operation because he had nothing else to do. Man, I gotta start keeping up!

"Newman-Haas formula one is still a contender last time I checked." Hoping this is written tounge-in-cheek. Joanne Woodward told ole PN that he couldn't drive anymore after he was punted at Lime Rock two years ago, breaking an ankle, causing ole PN to throw his helmet at the driver who punted him, allowing him to collect a $10K fine for unsportsman-like conduct. If, at 75, I still have the fire lit to throw a helmet at someone for this, I'll gladly pay the $10K. . .

Considering that we as a group own lowly 914's, I would guess that if any of us are racing at 75 years of age we definately would not have 10K to gladly pay fines with! At least I can't see that on the horizon!

Newman was at the SCCA National at Road Atlanta in March, punted a guy into the grass in turn 1 from what I hear. He may be able to drive at 78, but not real well...

[By the way, Mr. Newman - if you're browsing this post, no offense intended... I love your Caesar salad dressing and you were superb in Road to Perdition... I just think a race car is a handful at 24, at 78 it's dangerous...].

PN's roll in F-1 team is that of owner, not driver. He never drove F-1

Did Steve drive the 917 in Lemans or did a stunt double?

In the show on Speed about the making of the movie, I believe they said that they winged most of the movie with no script to speak of and staged some stunts afterward. They hired a driver known to be good at spinning cars for the "big spin" scene. Otherwise, McQueen did all the driving. I that's why he was there, he liked to drive. It would have been imposssible to persuade him to sit in the trailer.

He also did some of the driving in the actual Le Mans race that year in the 908 that had the camera equipment in it. Yes, some of the footage from the movie was shot during the actual race that year. The remainder was shot during the next several months.

If you're interested in the story behind the making of the movie, the book "A French Kiss With Death" is invaluable.
