914 6 conversion 3.0 cis motor mount
Now that I have the 3.0 sitting in it's new home I must make room for the cis so I can close the engine and trunk lids on this project. the engine lid latch move and notched trunk have already been done as this car had a mfi 6 engine in it before. I have the stock 914 6 engine mount. Can I make a spacer and use a longer bolt to lower the engine and If I can, do I have to lower the tranny as well.

What kind of engine mount setup do you have?
In general, you can lower the engine down by using spacers and possibly longer bolts. But the crossbar-style mount (AKA "quick six") is low enough that ground clearance could start to become a problem. You shouldn't need to drop the transmission down, the tranny mounts can easily deal with the very small change in angle from lowering the front of the engine a bit. If you're having to drop the engine very much (say, if you're dropping it a couple of inches) then you're probably going about solving the problem the wrong way. You can muck about with the CIS manifolding and such to get it to fit without notching the trunk (or without notching much out of it, depending on who you talk to), so you shouldn't need a whole lot of change. --DD

I am using the stock 914 6 motor mount not an after market mount.
I think if I dont lower the tranny also, the shift rod will interfere with the engine. Any suggestions. Thanks David

The stock "bent" side-shifter bar will interfere with the exhaust, pretty much no matter what. What you do is substitute a straight piece of rod (or tubing) for the bent part. JPIII and Bleyseng have done this in the past. All you need is a way to hold the ends still relative to each other while you cut out the bent part and weld in a new tube.
I think that with that, you should be fine. --DD

For the tube, I just cut one end off and rotated the rod. Then, welded system back together.
For the fit, what year CIS do you have? This question regarding fit came up a month ago. Some did a sweet job of fitting a CIS system into a 914. When I had a CIS system, the PO installed a SS air box. Made the whole process easier.

I already have a real nice fabricated straight shift rod, My hard oil line may interfere with it but I am sure I can bend that up a bit. the 3.0 is from a 1979 sc, I am going to get a jack under it tonight and and lower it down to see what I can get away with without interferance, I believe I may only need an inch or so to get the rubber intake under the lid. Time to get back on my back. I will let you know how it works out.

The only way I have seen the CIS motor fit is to CUT the rear of the engine compartment for the injection. If this is a real six, PLEASE DON'T CUT HER. Otherwise, get the sawsall.

Check out this link
914/6 2.7?? Shows a CIS motor in the car without cutting the firewall. I was able to do it, but I moved the latch assy to the other side. I think Wayne was able to do the same.

I test drove a conversion car for a fellow enthusiast a couple months ago, it had a 2.7 CIS motor in it with no cutting, I can't remember if the 3.0 and 2.7 CIS fuel distributor etc were identical or not.

I will post some pictures of my car soon, I lowered the tranny about an inch and made room for the lid to close but decided to put it back up after seeing the picture of the engine in the link, the ribs on the intake boot were the problem in getting the lid to close, if you look carefully at the engine pictured you will see that the ribs on the intake were ground down to make clearence for the lid. this is what I am going to do also. thanks for all the helpful suggestions and the link Jim.
