Replacing Exhaust System

Well, it's that time. My primary silencer on the ol' 76 2.0 is officially eat-up with the cooties. Damn that thing is loud now. Anywho, I'm looking to replace the exhaust system. I'd like to keep the thing as quiet as possible maintaining a stock sound. Any recommendations? I've looked all over the web to find OEM style replacements and they cost more than I'm willing to spend. What is it with OEM stuff? Is it made of gold/platinum/titanium or something?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

You might try Dansk. They make a Stock-ish muffler for around $250(i think), but quality has been questionable

Another, even better.. NOS but ugly.

It's looking like time to stock up.

$50 so far, that's 10% where I come from.

Minor detail--that is 73-74 2.0 stuff. He has a 76, and him saying "primary muffler" indicates to me that he has the late-style exhaust.

I think we have a couple of replacements for the stock 75-76 muffler. I believe that one of the Bursch mufflers is for those late cars. Check the catalog, or call.

Hi Dave,

You are correct, I have the late style exhaust. This car is stock original to the bone and runs like a top. I have scoured the net including eBay (and found the ones that the guys have listed above) and have found very few options. I know that Dansk makes a replacement but I have no idea how much it costs or what it's made of. I've also found the Manta system that pretty much replaces the whole thing and looks more or less stock but the tail pipe looks a little different.

Let me know if you guys have anything laying around that you might want to get rid of...

Thanks,
Dave

I've check the PP catalog and the primary is NLA unless you guys have some that are used.

I just backdated my exhaust to the 73-74 style, so I have the entire old exhaust laying around.

The primary muffler, before the CAT, looks ok on the outside not sure about the inside but the metal still feels pretty stout. The secondary muffler, after the CAT, is rusted out. I've got the bypass pipe and the CAT also.
