wheels
I've now decided to go ahead and get my hubs redrilled, which brings to me to next topic of speculation: what type of wheels shoudl I get. Can some of you guys with different wheel options please post some pics. I'm thinking of going to a 17x7 with a 4/100 bolt pattern. Am I correct in saying I'll need about 35 mm in backspacing?

That 35mm is offset, not backspacing. My 6x15's have ~36mm
offset and work well, the 205/50 kumhos might not hit the fender in the rear even if it wasn't rolled a little (car is a '70 so no bend in the lip from the factory). If you get 35mm in 7" width, you'll be 1/2" farther on inside and outside, should probably work well. I'm not sure but if you tried 49mm offset to put all the additional width to the inside, you might run out of room. Mark S. '70 914-6 |

Mine are 16x7 with 40mm offset.......35mm offset supposed to be the ideal offset for 7" wide rims....remember, 205's are about the widest tire before hitting the fender. (4x100 bolt pattern)
You can buy Revolutions in 15x7 and 17x7 in the 4x130 bolt pattern ![]()

ya I've seen revolutions before. Aren't they kinda expensive though? I'd rather go with wheels more like yours.

Expensive. Hmm... 7x15, about $250 each. Versus drilling and studding your fronts and rears. And having to re-drill the rear rotors every time you change them. And having to re-drill and re-stud the fronts every time you change front rotors.
Sounds like the break-even point is about one brake rotor change, and you come out ahead $$$ by using the Revolutions or other wheels that have the correct bolt pattern. --DD

ya I can get em drilled for 150. I think I might save my funds for a little longer and just try to clean up the wheels I have myself for now and then buy what I want later. I had an estimate for getting em polished at 250 a wheel....

Dave is right...I'm not sure if I'd recommend the redrilling, it can be a problem down the road.
250 per wheel for polishing?? talk about getting raped-by-an-ape !!!! 100 per wheel should be the norm

It's the only place around here, but I know they do really good work. http://www.alloypolishing.com/index.html that's the place. If I could find somewhere to do it for 100 a wheel and get em pretty good I'd be happy though.

If you sent them to Al Reed in Anaheim ca. you would still save money, even with shipping.
He polishes Fuchs for around $50 each including painting the background if you want. Clearcoating will cost a little more if you decide to go that way, I decided not to get the clear. I've been to his shop and he polishes just about every kind of wheel imaginable but his psecialty is probably fuchs. People sent him wheels to be polished from all over the country. His work is top notch, he's famous on the 911 board. try a search for al reed. |

AL REED POLISHING
3010 E. Coronado #A, Anaheim, CA 92806 (714) 632-3907 He doesn't do computers so the only way to get a hold of him is phone or snail mail. I dropped off my wheels on Monday around 10:00 am and they were polished, painted, mounted and balanced by Friday afternoon. I just did a search, hundreds of positive posts about Al Reed and not one negative post that I could find. That's a pretty good batting average. BTW, try FEDEX ground, some of the posts said that was the cheapest way to send wheels. One guy just got his wheels back, and he lives in Florida. |

![]() OK, so how much money are you saving again? I'm not telling you not to do it--just pointing out that it's not as cheap as you might think, and the first or second time you wear out a pair of brake rotors your total expense will have been more than purchasing the "expensive" wheels that fit without any fuss. --DD

I like my pedrinis better than those "expensive" wheels any way. I just didn't wanna have to blow an arm and a leg to get my wheels polished. I searched for al there and I'm thoroughly impressed with his work. It's as good, if not better than the stuff the place I had qoute me was offering and for a hell of alot cheaper. I found wheels for 600 with the tires and free shipping, but if I can get the ones I've got polished and just buy a new tire for the one that's bald now, I'd be much happier and save a ton of money.

To add to the price, the front hubcentric ring has to be turned down on a lathe...more work, more cost

my car's gonna be black....I don't want too much black. There won't be hardly any shiny stuff on it any way, like I had to paint my bumpers cause they were too beat up to leave em how they were. The whole idea of just sendin em to al sounds good to me. I'll call down there next time I have a chance when they're open.

I called Al's place and they said 50 a piece for my wheels even though they've never been polished before and then I checked shipping and unless I did something wrong it said 8 bucks a wheel each way. That sounds like a heck of a deal to me.
