Its My Solenoid... Right?
When I turn the key I can hear the relay, and the various items cut out properly (ie the fan, radio, etc). If I jump the solenoid terminals the starter spins put is not engaging the flywheel. I beat on the solenoid (a year or so ago that freed it up...) For now I am resorting to push starting the pumpkin.....

besides the strap get some electrical cleaner and clean the terninals and the spade connecters on the starter itself. wiggle them while connected, if they are sloppy crimp on some new ones. if all else fails drive down to tacoma and you can have one of my spares if you're short on cash.

Could be the key switch. Next time it does not start, remove the cover off the T-12 connector (just the cover, not the plug itself) located at the engine compartment relay board. Then, use a jumper wire to touch the large red wire to the large yellow wire. (be sure the parking brake is set and the tranny is in neutral). The starter should turn over, if it does, then it is the switch

You all gave me a few little projects. I'll give them a try tomorrow and report back! Thanks!

Never mind... just found it in the PP tranny parts pics.... The strap is intact using the braille method. Moving on....

Try checking the starter system troubleshooting article available in the 914 Tech Articles section of this very website...

you might want to take ground strap off and replace it or clean it as it is probably as old as your car and caked full of nasty stuff that will not let it do it's job. at any rate a cleaning is a cheap and quick fix.
