Forced induction

well I helped a buddy do a engine swap into a toyota corola, j-spec superchared engine, since then I've been bitten by the supercharger bug.

How do these engines hold up under forced induction, approx 8lbs.
I'm wrangling a deal on a supercharger right now, looks like I can pick it up for a song, originally designed for 1.6L engine, my aplication is a stock 1.7l 914 engine with a lumpy cam, bolted to a 901 from a 911 and stuffed in my VW beetle.

engine is brand new rebuilt, so its not like we'll be stressing a high miler.
it also will be running an apropriate sized intercooler, mounted above the tranny with electric fans encouraging air flow.

thoughts comments etc.

Your engine will handle 8 psi boost without any problems as long as you keep the timing under control. I ran mine at 7 psi all the time with no problems and you won't have the added back pressure of the turbo to deal with like i did.
Lumpy cam, heh? I hope the overlap and duration are not too high. If they are some of your pressurized air and fuel will end up going out the exhaust before it gets a chance to burn. A good rule of thumb is 270 degrees max.

if you are going to use the stock fuel injection you will have to design some sort of fuel enrichment system when under boost.

There's a guy over on the Shoptalk Forums BBSes (http://www.shoptalkforums.com) who goes by the name "Moggy". He's in the UK, but he has done what you are talking about. You might want to take a look over there and see what he has to say and look at the pictures he's posted.
