Has anyone had any experience with scissor doors ( i.e. Lmbo Diablo)? I think they woud look cool on my 914 but dont know how hard they are to get installed.

You've been watching too much "American Hotrod" ...

Haven't seen it done (on a 914, anyway), can't see why anyone would want to spend $$$ to do it, but hey, it's your car!

You know, I've never even heard of someone trying on a 914! You might be able to use one of those "universal kits", but I would anticipate a whole lot of welding-in of reinforcements in your future if you try....

I'm lazy so I will just copy my reply from the 914club site:

Scissor doors block the door opening when they are open. Gullwing doors are more practical (?) because if properly done, they make getting in and out easier than a stock car. I tried to talk Zach into gullwing doors on his but he wasn't going for it even though I tried to convince him that car would go faster (insert smily emoticon). Either type of modification is a huge job! If I was doing a 914 instead of a Ghia gullwing, I would either make the doors removable to keep the open roof concept or make t-tops that pop out leaving the doors in place. Here is my gullwing and t-top album:

Gullwing 914....hmmm.

Yes-mount the doors to the fiberglass top! EUREKA!
Now the doors remove with the top for that "enhanced"
-wind in your hair- experience. WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN DONE BEFORE!!???

AWW SHUCKS!-- I just realized this would never work only
because it would no longer fit in the trunk.
