Need a key cut, and I have a question.

All i seem to have for my new car is the valet key, and I would like to get new keys made. Is there any way to get a regular key cut from the valley key? It looks like the blanks are a little different, but I don't know if the actually key pattern is different. Any ideas?

I may have answered my own question, but need some clarification verification! Are both the owner key (black for the most part) and the valet key (red for the most part) cut identical, and the only difference between the two is when you look down the key from the tip to the handle, the owner key has the two outer most fins (one on each side) to the outside of the blank, and the valet key has the two most outer fins in the middle of the blank? I guess i am trying to cut a original out of a valet key, is that possible?

This is an excellent question I have the same problem but in reverse. Have the regular key but would like to have the valet key cut.

Please someone answer this question.

OK, I took my new set of key blanks down and had them cut to match to only key I have (red valet key?). When I get back, the new red (valet key?) opens the doors and starts the car, just like the old red key. The new black (master key?) and the new Porsche crested light key (master?) (looks like I own a high dollar car!) only starts the car, no door or trunk locking! Now I have two keys that only start the car. Two keys that start the car and lock and unlock the doors, and zero keys that lock either trunk or the glove box! Just WTF do I have going on in this 4 wheeled key vortex of mine? Like usual, if it's mine, nothing can be simple! Any ideas?

Pull the rear trunk lock & have the locksmith look at it. You shouldn't be having that problem unless they're keyed differently.

You'll either need to pull all the locks & have them matched to your ignition key, or do the trial & error method of having a key made for your trunk lock & hope it fits the others. It's an odd combo that you have, I'm thinking the new keys just need a bit of "tweaking" to get them to fit the other locks. These things can be like everything else on a 914, fussy.

Take the lock from the glove box and the lock from the trunk to a locksmith and have him key them to your red keys. You will have two keys that work your entire car (red) and two keys that only work the ignition (black)

Don't forget the front trunk lock, also.
