Post 6-conversion > gauge questions

Hello, stil trying to figure this out. If someone can help.

1) Is the 914/4 temp gauge (either the one in the dash or in the center console) compatible with a 2.2T temp sender?
2) What are my chances to find a triple-slot combo 911 gauge, to fit the TEMP + OIL PRESSURE + FUEL modular inserts gauge?

Thanks!

Palo Alto Speedometer has the triple gauge...probably the ultimate way to go. But I almost had a heart attack when they told me the price. (I don't remember what it is, but it's scary.)

The info is here:

Well, that's come down $100 since the last time I checked!

Too bad there aren't any more of Don's combo gauge kits around...

The stock temp gauge will work with the sender from the 911 engine, but it will read wrong. Doesn't really matter since it doesn't have any numbers. If you want one with numbers, I believe that the sender in the 911 engine matches the 300 degree aftermarket VDO gauge.

I'm not completely certain on that, though.

Thanks Dave, but even if it doesnt have numbers, are their respective «red zone» is the same? I mean will the 914/4 red zone will give me any clue about being «nervous» or not?

BTW: i am in the process of building my own triple-gauge face plate. Should be feasable right? If i have all the senders with their appropriate modular gauges?

Thanks!

The whole gauge would be off. That includes the "red zone"--I'm guessing that the needle won't get to there before the engine case melts down, but it could be that the needle will live in that zone when the oil gets up to temperature. I don't really remember which range was larger, stock four or six.

You can make your own triple gauge, which is exactly what Don here at Pelican did. (Before he signed on at Pelican--but he did a second run after he started here.) They were available for something over $100--but you had to supply a 914 gauge, a 911 gauge, and the senders and wiring and such. The gauges could be picked up at swap meets, while the senders could be substituted with standard VDO fare. Or, in the case of a 911 engine, the stock senders could be used.

If there is enough demand, Don might possibly be convinced to do another run. But I'm guessing he would want quite a few deposits before he even started again...

I recommend buying oil temp & pressure VDO gages from Pelcian. Then, install them into the center counsil. Pelican also has the VDO transmitters

The trick is that the new VDO gages are smaller than the old VDO gages. I found some gromet material (actually rubber parts from an old set of gages) and made up the difference.

I will post a picture.

They sell reducer rings with the new gauges. They allow the use of smaller units in the larger holes. It just looks like a larger bezel...

I know that i could use a VDO aftermarket 2in oil pressure gauge for use in center console, avoiding me the hassle of crafting a -nice- 3-gauge cluster...

...but that wont solve the 914/4 temp gauge misreading with a 2.2T engine, so...

...here am i building a 3-gauge from a 914 one.

BTW Ive found some ready-to-bolt 3-gauge cluster with senders and gauges, at 695US$..... so i guess ill pass...

I think I came up with a reasonable solution.
In the spot where the fuel guage usually is
I put a 911 oil temp/oil pressure guage, reasonable on ebay etc.

In the center console I took the temp guage
apart and fit the fuel tank module into the casing. That way the sensors from the 6 are to an appropriate guage, 914 fuel tank sensor to appropriate guage, and no new holes.

best Mark
( sure I'd like one of those nifty triple guages)
