Hi,
I am possibly going to sell my favorite car EVAR! The car is a very very clean ORIGINAL 1970 Porsche 914-6. The car was "signal orange", but was painted a "canary yellow" in the 80's Everything is there and together, but there is no 2.0 in it. The car had a 2.8l RSR engine in it, but high comp without race gas chipped the nicosil in the cylinders, and a rod bearing let go. I am DEBATING selling the complete rolling chassis (all you need is an engine), but NEVER intended to sell it, so I would like some experienced folks opinions. KBB is irrelevant when it comes to a car like this, so any experienced opinions would be greatly appreciated. If you have an opinion but no experience, please save it. ![]() Here are some of the shots that I have of the car. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks in advance for any help.

What other bodywork has been done to the car other than removing the front signal markers?
Where are the chrome bumpers? whats the vin number? Interior shots? mileage?

The rear fenders were professionally widened +- 1" as it had 15x7s that didn't come with the car.
The bumpers were professionally sprayed black after they louvered the side rockers and the rear valence. The bumpers, and rockers are a satin black and any chrome on the car was blacked out. De-shiny'd. I have to get the vin, as the car is at our shop, but I guarantee it is a REAL 1970 914/6 Interior shots are going to be taken. Clean, stock, with a little cracking on the top face of dash. The car was not driven too often. The mileage is at 65K only! Oh yeah, The front has a (roughly) 6x10" cutout for GT style oil cooler. Done by Allen Johnson in the 80's. Very clean work.

I'd start by looking at the going price of a comparable but complete 914/6 and subtracting the cost of an engine and labor to get it all running.

If I do that, they are roughly $20K-$25K, and an engine is $8K-$10K so yeah.....I'd estimate $10K-$15K for the chassis, but that I already knew. I am looking for experienced opinions.
This car is not 100% perfect factory condition. It has some fender widening (rear) GT style oil cooler in front, and paint that is not the OG color.

What suspension / brake upgrades are there (if any?) (i'd hope with a 2.8 there were some upgrades done, besides some rear flaring) What size wheels? you can always deduct another $5K from the price to get a decent paint in orginal color and fix the oil cooler hole, but I imagine its worth more than $5-7K Point is, I've seen less complete "shells" asking $10K.. not sure what they are selling for. How bad is the rust ![]()

I gave you my experienced opinion as a buyer and seller of many cars, some projects, some not. The car is not original, even though you initially said it was, and you said you already have a value in mind, so it seems all you can do at this point is start taking offers.

Haha Racer, no rust. Battery tray is still there.. Maybe a lil surface, but no holes...That I know of.
The wheels are 15x6, not deep. The suspension is Koni back, bilstein front. No Big brake upgrades other than the 911 stock brakes. Alu. "s" calipers I believe. and 911 rotors. The car was fully functional before I "took the engine out" (pun intended) Ready to roll after engine install. There are stock 901 gears in it right now, but I have short gears for it in a box. There really were not too many more mods other than the oil, flare, trim customization, and Paint, and YES the car did get a little squirrly under heavy acceleration. Particularly in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at around 7000 RPMs. It was just a street rocket for me, but was auto-x'd by original owner, and he had Allen Johnson do all the little mods that I listed. Rockhound, I stated that it was an "Original 914-6" as opposed to a conversion. The car is clean with some tasteful/functional/not too intrusive modifications. Thanks for your opinion. I was simply looking for more than I already knew, and piece of mind before I put it out there for the Porsche Vultures to start fighting over it.... ![]()

Just point your browser to www.914world.com and post the same thing. There are a lot of original /6 owners there and you will get opinions.
To me, it's just a VIN number.

Based on what you've told us, and what I see in the pictures, I would pay $8-9,000 for a car like that.

Thanks gents.
I started going to "914club.com" and will check out "914world.com" too. I am getting saddened by the sight of my car for sale, and am re-falling in love with it. This has board has been very helpful, and I will now take my knowledge to the Porsche world outside of Pelican Parts Tech Forums.

If you decide to keep it and want to go back towards something "stockish" with it, I know where there are a couple of original unmolested 2.0l 914/6 longblocks available for sale. Just an option if you can't give it up.

Upon teardown of the 2.8l, we found that one of the Mahle 92mm cylinders is chipping away at the top due to detonation. I may let some of the stuff go for the right price. Block, heads, cams (the bigger of the two "s" cams), and everything is okay, just needs the crank re-ground, and one cylinder (Hard to find just 1 Mahle 92MM Cylinder....Very hard) If you got a *****in set of nickies, you could have this motor back to running and putting out 280Hp, and spinning out to 8,000 rpm.. That is where my dad took the motor in the 80's when he built it originally. He put a "cutout" rotor @ 7200 for me and I still managed to throw a rod bearing.... :/

If you are interested contact Glenn at Carquip 303-443-1343. Tell him I sent you. I doubt they'll be cheap9though I guess that's subjective) since it's a retail operation, but last time I checked they had two, maybe even 3 takeout cores from cars that were wrecked out.

914-6 market prices
I sold a rusty COMPLETE original sixer 2 yrs ago for $6500 cash; it ran & drove & the sheet metal was straight, but was a restoration nightmare - I figured that was what it was worth as parts, and I didn't have to do the work
