Completeing the longblock
A friend of mine just bought a type IV longblock and we are looking for a good source to complete it (its going in a 912). Are 40 webers good enough for a 2056?

Depends on how big a breather it is.
But depending on the venturi size 40 IDF's should do the trick just fine. What cam are you running, is there any port work?, size of valves, type of exhaust. If you are buying carbs the store should set you up with a basic package of jets.

Don't know about the cam, mild port work, valves close to stock, no exhaust yet. The carbs are set up for the 912 engine right now so I'm sure I'll have to change the jetting - may put it on a dyno once its all finished and tune it there.
I steel need to find the tin, fan shroud, generator, etc. - anyone have all of these items? Efrain 68 912 Coupe |

40 webbers are ok for that application. The only problem stickinga 914 motor in a 912 is a motor mount. The 912E motor mounts are BIG$$$$$$$$$$, and nobody makes a mount that is on the shelf. We have done that job, so if you run into a problem contact us. OTTO

Thanks Otto. I knew that the engine mount was going to be my one big headache. How much do you charge to get the job done?

It is file to fit,and paint to match. I think that the last mount that we made was about $450.00. You have to buy a 412 mount and then a 912 mount and combine the two. It is alot of fabrication and welding. Then you need to fabricate the proper engine sheet metal. OTTO

I have actually had better luck with 2056 engines running 44's lately, especially with one of my cams, and 8.5-9:1 CR
Made 131 BHP last weekend on the dyno, with a combo like this and just installed it in the car, go herehttp://www.aircooledtechnology.com/Home_Page.htm to see what it loks like in the back of a Ghia.

The tin might work well. Then again, it was designed for the 76 chassis, not the 66-69. Not sure if there are any differences in the shape of the "engine shelf" or not.
I recall reading that the attachments on the body of the 912E (the brackets welded onto the chassis) are unique to that car. There were only 2099 912Es made, so finding parts from one may be non-trivial. It sounds like some folks have been able to fab up their own engine tin and/or motor mounts. You can check the Shoptalk Type IV Forum at http://www.shoptalkforums.com for at least one or two people who have done the job. --DD
