Value of Engine/trans

What would be the value of an unknown 2.0 liter engine and 5 speed transmission. Engine is out of the car and not running. Fuel injection may not be complete. They are asking $1800. Seems a hair on the high side. I would be looking at it to rebuild, and convert to carbs

WAY over priced. Not running = unknown problems.
$500 for both to start the haggling.

Thanks, that is along the lines of what I was thinking. I was thinking that $500 was the end point for the haggling though. I think that some people think that because it is Porsche, it has to be worth a lot

Even $500 sounds a little steep. Motor is essentially a core and the trans should be too. As a reference, I was able to purchase a decent transmission for 150, unknown condition, turned out to be decent.
