Hi,
Looking for aggressive alignment settings for a dedicated serious auto-x car. Thanks in advance for any of your recommendations. Adam |

How serious? Any street miles, or trailer queen?
Rough start: Max caster angle available, but even on both sides. 2 degrees negative camber front 2.5 degrees negative camber rear 1/16" toe-out in front 1/16" toe-in in rear Some 914s won't give you that much negative camber without serious work. If you max out before you get there, set the limited end to max negative and then set the other end so you have about 1/2 degree more negative camber in the rear. Suspension setup (what springs, etc.) will play a goodly role as well. For a car that sees much street mileage, I'd dial the camber back to about 1.5/2.0 front/rear. For one that sees a whole lot of street mileage, I'd back off another half-degree too degree on both ends. --DD

before you do any settings I'd recommend you settle on which tires you are going to run since the brand and type will affect the settings, especially the camber in front. Check with several race prep/alignment shops to see what they say. I use Goodyear slicks on my race car and both front and rear are straight up, no negative camber at all because they are a cantilever bias ply tire where as V700s need about a negative 1.5 to 2 degrees. Dave is right about the toe out in front(helps turn) and slight toe in at rear(under braking the rears will go straight) although the caster can be reduced which will make the steering quicker. Another thing to consider is a quick ratio steering rack to reduce the number of turns lock to lock which is handy if this is a dedicated auto-x or slalom car, for use on tracks with long straights it isn't needed. Good luck.
