The 04 entry of VanLennep-Marko, a Porsche 908-3 at the 1971 Nurburgring. I'm not sure which 914-6 GT is the one car behind it.

Checking measurements to insure the upper rails are not only parallel to each other, but also spaced correctly so that they can slide front-to-back
easily when the seat assembly is mated to the lower rails. Any misalignment here will definitely create a binding mechanism.

I can't stress enough how important it is to have the correct rail alignment prior to permanently welding the two rear seat rail support brackets.

The 914-6 GT Rally Hand-Brake Modification

As I've done before, I'll start this section of the project with a few sample photos of how the Porsche factory relocated and modified the parking lever mechanism for the Rally cars. Take a look...

The rather large diameter cable in the photos below actuates a modified 'drum-brake' mechanism that was incorporated at the rear hubs of the 914-6.
Unfortunately, I don't have any other detailed photos of the 911-type drum brake setup in the 914-6 GT rally cars.

I see a problem with your build.

Your quality and craftsmanship is much much better than the factory !

I think you need to dull your tools and hurry up and be much more sloppy to be more true to the factory work.

Quality Control Dial...

Hello Pete. You're so right, the Porsche factory, at that time, never really cared or meant to work on their race cars at this quality level.
Having said that, production cars are a whole different story, where workmanship always shines. ;)

I joked around with Mark (the guy responsible for all the fabrication work and talent) threatening him with the installation of some sort of "dial-implant" where
one would have some level of "quality control". Using the dial, I could back him off a bit on certain areas of the project where I don't want things to look so perfect.
Trust me, I'm by no means complaining... :D Thanks for the post!

Will there be any actual racing/laps driven in anger or just the studio shots and the staged drive-by/car-to-car shots?

I haven't seen the entire DVD yet, but I do know Derek Bell and several other well known figures narrate the history of the 911 RSR. From what I saw, it was very well done and captivating, I'll have to check on the release, maybe it already has...

Armando, Here are some pictures of a 914/6 GT that my brother raced in 1971. In Daytona the #19 car was driven by Steve Behr, John Buffum and Irwin Kremer.
It finished 8th over all and 2nd in GT. It was a two car effort. The #18 car was not a factory GT car. They ran at Sebring March of 71 now #29 but did not finish.
There it was, driven by Charles (Pete) Conrad with Behr and Buffum. Pete Conrad commanded Apollo 12 and was the 3rd man to walk on the moon.

Hello, VERY NICE your 914-6 GT site! As a real Porsche lover, I can only say "SUPERRRRRRRR". I love the Porsches prior to 1974, and most of all, the 911 GR4 and RS, RSR cars!
I have a lot of pictures in my collection and I sending you a never published picture taken at the 1971 Spa (1000 km) event.
