The "Conda Green" piece on the right is an original 914-6 GT Front Shock Tower that Glenn Stazak was very nice to lend us for the reproductions. Thanks again Glenn!

Keep in mind that four sets of GT front shock-tower reinforcements were fabricated. These photos represent a combination of the fabrication steps of all four pairs and therefore appear out of sequence. What made this reproductions a bit more difficult, was the fact that there was a "left" and a "right" side so two different sets of tooling had to be made.

When I find more time, I will add some pertinent comments, notes, etc. I hope you will find these detailed photos useful in your own GT project. Enjoy!

Beautiful work Armando. What's is now? 26 years?

Thanks Henry! I miss having you around the corner in Costa Mesa! I'll try and stop by next time I'm in your area (I'll call first)...

FLASH-FORWARD PHOTOS!

Now modifying the factory stock 914 engine bay lid so it not only clears both rear roll-bar tie-in tubes, but it also matches the reinforcement lip as the factory stamped them. See below...

GT Front Shock Tower Installation

This next photo sequence will detail the installation of the GT front shock towers we fabricated and will complete this section of the project. Take a look...

Prior to welding the parts in place, we mocked the installation of the GT 100-liter fuel tank to make insure the shock tower reinforcements were properly positioned.

A work of art, Armando
Thanks again, and you mentioned before that the piece you made maybe for sale?

ajserrano 10-23-2011 02:52 PM

Is a set available for sale?

Funny you said that, I too look at it as "art". What else could it be? ...and Mark just won't settle for anything less! lol

I believe the set we fabricated for Bernie Buschen is available since his Stoddard built GT already had them installed when he purchased the car. Feel free to contact Bernie at this email address; bbuschen at comcast dot net Stoddard 1970 Porsche 914-6 GT - sn 914.043.1665 Photo Gallery by 914-6 GT at pbase.com

PS: Let him know I sent you...

Armando, you mentioned that Glenn lent you the Conda Green piece - What GT was that out of and what is the status of that car?

ajserrano 10-23-2011 07:43 PM

What GT was that?

I don't recall the details, and I should. You'll have to ask Glenn. Better yet, I'll email Glenn and let him tell the story. ;)

Armando, this site is SICK (in the good way)!

Only problem is that I'm drawn to it when I should be working. Can you provide a quick fix for that...please:confused:

Paul

ajserrano 10-25-2011 08:36 AM

Sick!

Hi Paul! I'm afraid not. I'm diagnosed with a similar virus and the CDC can't seem to provide a working vaccine. There are thousand of us with this condition and is not only affecting productivity as you indicated, but also placing an unreasonable financial hardship to our families. We're on our own!

PS: For now, don't worry, if you're having withdrawals, I still have several more hundred photos to post until we can figure this out... :D

ajserrano 10-25-2011 11:10 AM

Help! Where can we source this?

Not sure if it is a "sheet metal" or "machine" screw, but either way, I need to source both the slotted screws and beveled washers in the same black finish (if possible) so that I can correctly finish the 914-6 GT engine bay lid.

Those bevelled washers look like the kind auto upholstery shops use.

McMaster Carr usually ships same day so you get your parts the next day. Expensive but in the overall scheme of things, the convenience is worth it.

McMaster-Carr Finish washers
McMaster-Carr Flat head screws

Now all you need is a Supertec engine :)
