I love this photo...
These kinds of roads is where the 914-6 GT really shines and almost "illegal fun" to drive. Until you actually drive one, you won't understand.
This particular photo is one of my favorites. ![]()

You do anything to temper that stainless after welding? You wouldn't want chrome carbides and denuded zones in a high stress area like that.

Nevermind. I re-read the label and saw it is 304.

Chassis Stiffening Kit Custom Fab - Rear
This is your more common rear stiffening kit made available over the years from several sources to the general public.
Instead of using this pre-formed kit, we decided to custom fabricate all the pieces for a more exacting fit. We also decided to use 1/8 inch material for a more rigid and stronger reinforcements. Take a look... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the shop "hydraulic press" we used to form the 1/8 inch stock. Like that? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here we started to remove all the rosette weld spots, then finishing it to a smooth surface. In retrospect, I wish we hadn't done that since it is now very difficult to tell the chassis was ever reinforced. It also takes away from trying to duplicate how these 914-6 GT cars were originally finished. I suppose I can go back and add the rosette welds, we'll see... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Dog-Ear Reinforcements + Spherical Bearings
This section will show the installation of the 'dog-ear reinforcements' and also the spherical bearing modification vastly improving the rear suspension pivot points.
I'll start with some sample photos of how the factory implemented the dog-ear reinforcements in the 914-6 GT race cars. Take a look... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the beginning of our fabrication process... ![]() ![]() Trial fitting the factory 914-6 GT headers so we can determine how it will clear the long reinforcement bar. This long bar connects the dog-ear to a plate welded at the lower section of the firewall in the engine bay. ![]() ...and here is the other side... ![]()

Hey Armando,
out of curiosity, which /6gt came with this mod? This is something I will look at doing to my /6 (2188) when I start to redo my car again. It looks like it is pretty straight forward, were there any unforseen problems? Top notch work, great documentation Thanks for the effort. John Edit: Those headers are fricken beautiful, can you share the story behind them, and I am curious how long it took you to source your parts. Last edited by quicksix; 10-04-2011 at 02:51 PM.. The photos posted following the "Collier" owned factory 914-6 GT, also have this modification. I will try and label those photos later tonight. ![]() Quote:
(bumpers, front valance, rear shocks, 906 crankshaft, camshafts, etc.). I have been collecting 914-6 GT parts for many, many years. Don't ask me why I did, there is no reasonable explanation, other than I've always had a love affair with these mid-engine 914-6 cars. ![]() ![]()
