Hmmm... different topic. What is the break fluid reservoir mounted in the engine compartment for??? Is it a container for for oil and stuff from the oil breather??? Does this work???

dave ellison the owner of the car said he was up late fri night getting his car ready for the auto-x on sat and it was the first and easiest piece he could lay his hands on for a temporary breather box. i'm sure the next time he has car out he'll have someting more permanent.

Nice looking engine compartment! That looks like the Weltmeister linkage on my car. I've had it for years. Do they still make it?

yes they do. what caught my eye when i first saw the setup as the throttle cable bracket.a stock cable slips right in, run the locking nut down and you're good to go.i bought a base/linkage kit from c.b. a few years ago, when i opened up the box no bracket. upon further inspection, triads bracket and cross piece are powder coated.and the adj.pieces(linkage rods) running down to the thottle arms are verticle, definately not like my c.b. unit worked out.the base is slim and strong, not thick and bulky like their cast counterparts. imho a well designed and good looking unit. i'm not sure what the cost is but i bet it will be less exspensive than than paying for the wieltmiester name and decal.hell, maybe triad throws in a decal too. they seem to have some other great items in development too. just so you know i'm not connected with triad at all.i just thought the pictures might have been of interest to others, and dave ellison was was just so dang pleasant.

Only one pic shows up for me. (NS doesn't deal with spaces in file names very gracefully.)

Anyway, from the one pic I see, there appears to be no lateral support for the bracket. It looks as if it could pivot and swing to one side or the other, which would not be really good for your throttle response. If that's the case, you might think of running an extra rod or piece of metal from somewhere to the bracket to keep it from moving.

Nice looking linkage and engine compartment! I have the Weltmeister linkage and it does look similar to the one in the photos, except the parts are gold cad plated. The cable bracket is very similar and bolts to the fan housing with a single bolt. It is stable, and doesn't move laterally as Dave questioned. The base of the bracket is square and it sits on the fan housing. It is wide enough that it will not rotate about the bolt. The linkage works well and I've never had a problem with it.

The price? I bought it several years ago during one of Automotion's 20% off sales. I think I paid $75-80 at the time.

Kevin,

In the second photo, what is the device laying on the engine case? It doesn't appear in the other photos.

The round device in the second photo looks like an oil pressure sender.

You will also notice that:

There is no brake fluid breather
Blue spark plug cables
The green wire for the sender is absent.
An oil cooler hanging from the engine cover.
Hose to the top of the carb(no brake fluid breather).
Engine compartment is painted gray.

There might be others but havent found them yet.

Is this the same car?

Obviously a work in progress....like all 914's.

I think the "other" picture is of Chris's 1.7l 914 which is silver in color.

geoff, i did'nt clarify in my post. there are pictures of two different cars. the one with the cooler was the white car from the triad crew.i met so many people i can recall his name.everyone was dang pleasant. i thought that by looking at the polished case and fan housing might be a tip off.the polished eight spoke panasports he had on his car were real sharp too. sorry all.

I have no idea what linkage is on my new-to-me car, but it seems to work fine and looks decent too. The breather/catch canister on this car is (I think) a nice alloy BugParts unit and is on the rear firewall stashed kinda underneath the engine lid latch.

Cool

Hi All,

You are all correct. It's two different cars: a malaga red 75 2.0 (mine) and a white '70 2.4 (Jason Celestine's). The linkage shown is produced by Triad West Performance http://triadwestperformance.com. I recently bought Triad from my good friend Dave Said. The linkage is basically the Weltmiester linkage - Triad got permission from Weltmiester to build the linkage when they stopped due to Califoria smog restrictions. Our linkage is powder coated, and has radiused edges, ect. There is no problem with lateral movement because the accelerator cable bar is flat on the bottom and fits snug with the fan housing.

The round thing on the case of Jason's car is indeed an oil pressure sender.

Besides the linkage, we also offer the well-known Triad exhaust headers and finals, and spherical strut mount bearings, along with new and used parts.

This is the first time I've been out here, and I hope you all don't mind the plug for Triad, but since you all wondered about the linkage I figured I'd post.

Later
Dave

Well, I myself don't mind! Hopefully the Boss doesn't mind either--I don't think he will, as long as you continue to provide useful information. (I.e., we might take a dim view if you only used the BBS for advertising your products. But if you answer people's questions, we should be happy to have you!)

Besides, how can ya not like someone named Dave???
