Hi all,
Better late than never! YES I am still planning to do the fun-run and pool-party/BBQ following the Ventura (Calif) Autofest on 9/14. The route and other details are still a bit tentative, but here's the basic scoop: http://www.nosubstitute.org/events/AutoFest14Sept02/funrun I will post a couple of updates here, as well as to the various "other" lists, as details gel prior to the event. I hope to see a bunch of familiar faces there, and some new ones as well!

P.S. NO burn-outs on my street, NO oil-leakers parked in the driveway, and NO peeing in the pool or the yard, dammit!

Oh, sure. It's all right to do those things at Sam's house but not Chris' :-)
BTW, the grass on the side yard is almost grown back. |

Hi all,
Last-minute reminder -- the Saturday afternoon 9/14 fun-run and pool-party/BBQ is still a go! The plan is to gather up in the exhibit area somewhere around the Pelican Parts booth between 2:30-3:00, and leave at 3. NOTE that there is a road closure on Mulholland past the Rock Store, so the original planned route has changed somewhat; however, I just test-drove the modified route, and it is wonderfully scenic as well as moderately twisty and hilly. Here's a synopsis of the route. I will have handouts with this info plus a few more details to distribute at the Autofest. A) Autofest venue to 101 Fwy South/East B) Exit the 101 at Las Posas. Head South to PCH (Hwy 1). We may want to pull-off to the right at the "big huge rock" dirt parking area for a photo op. (Same as on previous drives.) C) Continue South on PCH to Encinal Canyon Road. This is a left turn (um, towards the mountains, not into the ocean, duh) and is *very* hard to spot. If you get to Zuma Beach, you've gone too far. There is a sign prior to the turn on the northbound side but I'm not sure about the southbound route. If time permits, I will try to drive past there again tomorrow and identify an additional marker/landmark. D) Encinal goes rather abruptly up-hill at first, and then becomes a fast, smooth, mostly uninhabited road. At the peak, the road jogs right and then left again. Make sure you stay on Encinal Cyn eastbound (there are signs). Do NOT get on Decker Cyn, or you will head back downhill to PCH. After the jog, Encinal turns into Mulholland Hwy. After a total of 8.4 miles from PCH we will reach Kanan. E) Turn left on Kanan and proceed down hill. Again, this is a fast, smooth, steep stretch...and the cops know it. After 1.4 miles you will see a large Detour sign towards the bottom of the big hill, at Spring Creek. There is a quaint little general store and picnic area there. Turn right. F) Spring Creek immediately runs back into Mulholland Hwy. Turn left and proceed on Mulholland. You will pass Peter Strauss Ranch. After 2.5 miles you will reach the stop sign at Cornell Rd. Turn left. G) Proceed another 2.5 miles on Cornell Rd (past Paramount Ranch). This section of road is very scenic and is also inhabited with megabuck homes and well-used horse trails...be alert for bicyclists and horses. H) After about 2.5 more miles, Cornell Rd sharply jogs right and turns into Cornell Way. (If you miss the jog, you will connect with Kanan; no problem, just go right). About .1 miles after that, you will reach Agoura Road. Turn right. I) Proceed East about 2 miles on Agoura Rd to Liberty Canyon Rd. (At this intersection you are a couple hundred yards from a major LA Cty Sheriff Station - be alert) Turn right at Liberty Cyn, then 1 block past the stop sign, make another right onto Revere Way. Go up to the top of the hill, and the house will be at your 2:00 position as you face uphill. White house w/ blue shutters, 27470 Revere Way. This section is 2.8 miles total. ** Please be especially cautious in Liberty Cyn as this is a residential area with tons of little kids, as well as dogs, horses and other critters. Rampant speeding, burnouts or other mischief in this neighborhood is *extremely* likely to summon a visit from the Sheriff and/or an armed posse of neighbors, thus promptly ending our little gathering. I'm guesstimating around 90 minutes from Ventura to my house via the above route, but that is a wild guess as I haven't clocked this complete route. If you are driving a truck/trailer/motorhome, or just don't feel like taking the scenic route or are not comfortable in your ability to make it safely for whatever reason, then you can simply take the 101 S to Liberty Cyn and then follow (I) above. This route is extremely straightforward and probably less than an hour door-to-door. Don't forget to bring sun & swim gear (and the usual old-Porsche survival pack - cellphone, AAA card, duct tape, and zip ties). If you have a radar detector and/or FRS handset, those are advisable as well. Hope to see ya there,

OK guys...I have food and drinks for at least 20 people, and the pool will be 84F tomorrow, so I'm gonna feel like a real schmuck if nobody shows up. ![]()
