Need help with ignition switch problem
When starting my '70 914-4 the key does not return by itself when released. It must be manually turned back to the "run" position. I assume there is a broken return spring someplace. My question is, do I need to replace the electrical switch or the keyed lock portion to solve the problem?

You need to replace the key lock (mechanical section) of the switch. While your at it, replace the electrical too.

On a 70-71, the electrical section is a bit of a PITA to replace. Not even sure if it is still available... If it is, you have to splice the wires or remove them from the connector on the body one-by-one. No easy plug like the later ones...
