think you're a great biker? just stopped for a guy who crashed his bike on the highway right in front of me......doing only 60 mph. he was just cruising when something on his bike locked up and he started skidding really quickly, laid it down, bike burst into flames.....road rash from hell and probably broken wrist and leg. think you got that one covered.........especially at 120?

yeah you may not care about what happens to you but what about the other people on the road.

your consideration does not go beyond yourself and personally i find that frightening

This is all why my bike has been in the garage for the past 3 years. It is so easy to get used to doing 130-140 on a daily basis and like you guys have said it is just a matter of time. Like a crack addiction I had a speed addiction. Soon 80mph wasn't enough. next 100mph wasn't enough. Next was 140 and soon that got boring. Dangerous..... I am trying to break my addiction now. Has anybody else experianced this? Getting used to insane speeds?

man sounds like u guys get away with alot! built up areas here are limited to 50km/hr. rural/ highways is 80-100km/hr. cops here allow 10kph over the limit as courtesy only, so we can still get booked by a cop having a bad day if ur doing 55kph. if we want to do over 100kph legally we have to take it to the track altho it doesnt stop some people...

I'm not gonna criticize your riding habits... but, man, what is with the poetic structure? Are you planning on printing out this thread and handing it in to creative writing class?!?

Hi other time!
I think all of ours like speeding...but we cannot loose the sense of reality.I had set my 951 at 155 mph on the highway....but that was only one time, the time you use to see how fast can go...But there were no other cars,it was at 3 a.m.,highway was in very good shape and i have no risks.

Daily driving,i usually cruise at about 70 mph (to save fuel),but sometimes i go about 90-120 mph cruising...another time, when traffic allows it,and i have no more risks than driving at 60 mph.You know is safer to go with this car at 100 mph than 60 with many others.I´m not crazy, i´ve never done slalom with cars,or speeding with others at short distances,or stupid and risky things like that.

I´ve suffered few accidents,no one for speeding, and no one´s my fault. And i have no tickets due to speeding...well...i have tickets for nothing.

Someone talked about the "need for speed".. I suggest you to try the computer game "Need for speed 5 Porsche unleashed"...it´s really good and you can try almost every porsche ´till 2000 (of course 944 too),and if you crash you can reset it all...

Man, I love to speed man but it seems the only time I really do it is when I'm drunk or after blowing a line of coke man. It's sooo awesome when I put my life and the lifes of others at risk.

speed is relative. it always depends on the situation, the equipment and most importantly, the driver. I do speed on public roads occasionally but am always mindful of the situation and conditions. just remember, even if you can handle the speed it doesn't mean those around you can. response time is everything.

I agree with Ronin. It's one thing speeding on a dual cariage highway, another on a 2 lane road. Visibility, traffic density etc all need to be taken into account. Have done my 120mph but that is rare and its on a dual highway at 6am. When we go on the club runs some of the guys do take chances but we are split into two groups-I go with the slow group (can't think of running with GT3's,Carrera 4s's and the turbos). I also worry about the rural kids and livestock running across roads.
Have had 3 serious accidents on motorbikes, one when I broke my leg, and these have been through other drivers not stopping at stop streets or traffic lights or dogs running in front of me. emwporsche, being a biker has actually made me more cautious than most people I know as you have to be alert for the unexpected. There is no metal cage to protect one on a bike.
The problem with our cars is that you do not feel the speed the way you would with other cars so the speed tends to creep up unawares.

I'm not saying...

I do it always
but my current schedule allows me to have open roads for very long straits, and inner city is a no-no.
once I was stuck in a turn only lane and had to go strait. There was a car a ways ahead of me and I was forced to floor it and hope that I passed him before my lane dissapeared.
I didn't make it.
the car reached the curb before I was totally passed him and I was stuck driving between the curb and this car before I zipped by. I slowed for the next light, a guy stopped who saw what happened and asked if I was looking to get killed. (I think I replied no, but I was still a little speechless) It was not as if I wanted to be stuck in that situation, it just happened.
10 seconds is all it took.
Riding has made me an increasingly better driver (especially to other bikers)
as for 'white - lining' it, those are under serious circumstances
the most dangerous drivers for me are the ones that try to get out of my way, I have already calculated their speed, position, and possibilites
it seems to me that riding with traffic is more dangerous than going slightly faster than them (if possible)
my life is in their hands - I don't like that
going 5 faster than them allows me to put my life back in my hands

Mixed opinions everywhere it would seem...

I don't agree that going 5mph faster puts your life back in your hands, If you're in traffic and you want to get out of trouble, pull back!

Personally, if I'm insure as to someones ability to handle the road they are driving on (which lets face it is an every day occurance), make sure they are in front of you where you can see them!

I had this justthe other day, a guy in a little Metro (70mph (top) compact hatchback found in England) was following, it was wet, he was too close behind me. Fortunately I saw him and when someone did brake in front of me, I braked and (thanks to ABS) steered to the side of the road, the Metro locked up and stuffed himself right into the back of the car that was in front of me. Fortunately no-one was injured.

The point is that with great power, comes great responsibility.

There are always gonna be nutters who see a porsche an think they can have a go, they can, and they can keep up with you up to about 100mph on a highway but if you brake, they will be sat in your back seat because there is no way they will stop. Let them go past, drop a couple of mph and when they're safely out of your way, return to YOUR safe speed.

Whatever speed you drive, you should be comfortable with any eventuality.

I used to think racing was about going fast, having now done it (on tracks) I now know that it is about driving as smoothly as possible. Driving as fast as possible actually takes seconds off your lap times because you are constantly on the ragged edge.

Just my opinion, you are welcome to yours, but if you're ever behind me and I pull in, think about slowing down a bit - maybe I know something you dont...

To answer the question, I speed only when I feel the conditions are safe to do so:
Dual or more carriageway, dry conditions, no other cars, no chance of pedestrians, car in FULL working order, know the road, No COPS, cameras etc...

"i SERIOUSLY hope you are kidding"

Um, he was at a party about a week ago and didn't even touch one beer because he knew he would be driving home in a few hours. I think it was fairly obvious due to his tone that he was kidding. He's not a rock star... yet.

I used to speed a lot and special leaving in Europe.
Sure i lost few friends on a motorcycle accidents,i was just lucky not the best as i thought then.
Now..I got the VFR ,the 944,951 and i love the acceleration but not the speeding part.To many people driving while they talk on the phone ,eating, reading etc.etc.
My mom had said to me ones..You know Nick !!! Die it's easy, loose a leg or become a veg is the hard part.
The picture of me on a wheelchair it was enough to slow me down.
