calling all speed freaks

I'm just curious how often you guys speed on an average day?
what do you generally go on the freeway - 60 - 80 - 100?
how many times do you floor it?

right now while my exhaust has a hole in it
I'm stuck on my bike
It tops out at 120 (just a 600) so thats what I get up to
every day
(yes I am that guy - in the t shirt - going in between the cars but never a porsche!)
I'm pretty sure the car is faster and handles better (I have a bent fork)

It's getting worse too 110 mph is now like 80
My heart wont start beating fast until far beyond 100

thats why I'm selling the bike - it's boring
I want to turbocharge a bike...mmm

People often think I'm trying to impress them when I take them for a ride (as you prob think I am as well) but it really sucks, I want to go back to 16 when 68 mph was flying down the road!
I would be less worried about cops, luckily though I have never been caught intentionally speeding; otherwise I would have gone to jail!

what about you?

i normaly drive about 90-100, i floor it when it all open and clear a head of me, never in traffic, unless i need to prove to a ricer that his car sucks even after $10000 worth of BODY work done to it. havent had a chance to max it out though, once i was racing a BMW X5 and we were doing slightly over 140 but he got off and my radar detacktor started going off so i slowed down.

those days when i was 16 i had BOSS 302... ive never gone 68 and had my heart thump, and that was only 3 years ago...

i always speed, and i should probably slow it down until i get a radar detector

i usually go 80 on the local highway which is supposed to be 65, and whenever it's clear in front of me, i usually get it to 90-100 but in top gear, the fastest i've ever gone in my 944 is 110

I usually cruise 70ish on the freeway, until I get my 944 it's going to stay that way

There is one portion of freeway where I usually step on it to see how fast I can go, the fastest I've ever been was 110 in my 1991 Honda Accord.

As soon as I get the 944, I expect that I'll be taking the parkway more often

I hardly ever go more than 5 over. If not for lots of other reasons but that the porsche (no matter the type) is a friggin cop magnet. I've been pulled over for speeding when it was the lady next to me, just cuz i was driving the pcar and she was in a forester.
That and going really fast will get you killed...Maybe not today, but someday that's probably how it'll end. Too many unpredictables on a given day.
Not that i fear dying, i just like it the way it is.

No, I'm not going to answer that!

But, I'm also not going to lock this thread down.

However, I must point out a couple of things:

1. Speeding on public roads is dangerous: get your thrill for speed on the track.

2. Posting such information here is opening up a can of worms for you: all you need is a local police officer to catch wind of your posts, and he'll be on the look-out!

Disclaimer: Neither I nor Pelicanparts condone speeding on the streets.

-Z-man.

It's not speed that kills. It's the sudden stops!

All the rural freeways in Texas have 70 mph speed limits. On roadtrips, armed with my Passport Solo, I drive 80-90 mph for hours at a time. I don't exceed 95 because if I was caught, I couldn't take defensive driving to drop thre ticket.

Speeding within city limits is just plain stupid.

I got pulled over once for speeding, man was I flying! 40mph! in a 30
Stone Mountain Park too... just a warning tho (was in 944).
I have never driven the '44 over 100mph, ever, even when taking the back of the pack during our cruise at 944 fest... (heh, was interesting playing catchup). Infact, today, I got a rush just from passing some slow guy on a two lane hwy, drop to third, about 5k rpm, let off at redline, slow down and move back over THAT was fun! lol.
Auto-x Do that. Takes care of most speed requirements.
One of the most peeved I've ever been in traffic, was when I had the '44 for a few months, sitting in almost stop and go bumper to bumper traffic in atlanta. All of a sudden this noise destroys my left eardrum... It was actually another red 944 FLYING by, shooting through traffic like crazy, guess he wanted me to catch him. Pissed me off thinking, someone is gonna think that is me. But whatever (I didn't have the balls to try to catch him... LOL).

Oh, so YOU'RE that *******. You know, the one that gives everyone else a bad name because you ride like a dick smack. You're also quite the genius, doing 120 on a bike with a BENT FORK, man, you're bright.

Even though I know this won't change your riding habits one bit, let me tell you a story or two.

A few years ago when my eldest brother first got his license my dad let him take his Saab 9000S. He took me, my sister and my other brother for a ride to the mall, just out for a cruise. On the way home as we stopped at a redlight a guy on a bike with no insurance, no license, no helmet and wearing jeans a a tee shirt ran into the back of us. He hit at about 120, said the cops. The trunk was pushed up into the back seats where my brother and I were sitting, and the car was moved a good 25 feet into the interesection. I bet you're wondering what happened to the ride. Well, he went over the top of the car, hitting it with his head and landing about 75 or 100 feet in front of the car. After taking a few seconds to figure out just what the hell had happened, we got out of the car to see if he was still alive.

At 5 years old, I was standing in the street watching someone die in front me. He was literally drowning in a pool of his own blood. Head to toe, he was covered. His head was split open, he was bleeding from his ears, nose, mouth and eyes. None of us knew what to do. What do you do? We stood there for really only a few seconds, but it seemed longer. Finally my sister got a brainstorm and got us all to go across the street to the McD's to call the police.

I bet you're really wondering what happened to him after the police got there. He was taken to the hospital, obvioulsy, without much of a chance. Yes, they did manage to "save" his life. I said "save" because for the next 4 or 5 years he was sitting in a coma in the hospital. Eventually he came out of it, but he's a vegetable. To satisfy his "need for speed", it cost him basically his life. To put in monetary terms, it cost him $1,860,000.00. And that's just for the coma years. My sister now works at a hospital and told me it costs about $1,000/day just to stay there. That figure isn't even for the medical treatment which I assume was quite expensive.

How's that 120 grab you now? Let me tell you another story.

A few years back, I think around 4 years ago, my sister and I were coming home and there was another motorcycle accident on the same road (about a mile up from where we were hit). Apparently, some guy on a bike decided to race. Someone pulled out. An SUV driver misjudged the speed and distance of the bike, thinking that it was a car with only one working head light. The SUV pulled out, and the bike hit the back of the SUV doing 150 miles per hour. There wasn't a piece of glass left in the SUV, the impact shattered it all. The impact was so severe it snapped the rear axle. The rider took flight about 125 yards down the road. I shouldn't even have to tell you he died on the scene. From what I understand from the paramedics, it was stomach turningly gruesome, like something from a horror movie.

I don't care how good you think you are, or how fast your bike is or how big your cock is, riding that fast on public shoots is like shooting dice for your life. Bottom line is, no matter how fast you are, you're not fast enough to avoid a situation like the ones above, and countless others. You may think you're the next Mat Mladain, or Mic Duhamel, but riding like you do you're really only looking at becoming the next statistic. There's a reason a good number of professional motorcycle racers don't hold road going licenses for bikes, it's dangerous. Even if you aren't speeding, it's dangerous.

Anyone want more stories? I'm sure between my dad who used to be a firefighter, my brother's friends and people I know, I can dig up a few good ones. If anyone wants to see what a Saab looks like after a bike hits it, I'm sure I can scan some pictures.

Thanks for giving motorcyclists a bad name.

Speeding on public roads is just a bad idea. We have all probably done it. Some of us have been luckier than others.

if you've got a speed addiction (like most of us here) be wise and take it out on the track. i love to go fast but experience just shows that speeding on public roads is outright dangerous for yourself and everyone else
i know this and that's why i autocross. it feels so much better to wring the neck out of your car and not worry about the legality and the potential danger

i really do suggest you give it a shot
