Needing all the help I can get! Everyone and anyone that knows about the 924S, READ!!

$150 for a battery? Sam's Club has them for $38.

I paid $60 for my POS battery at Advanced Auto Parts/Parts America. Wal-mart/Sam's Club Didn't have the size I needed at the time. I got the same warranty for the same price but less CCA and RA.

$150... He may be reffering to an Optima application, however the do not manufacture a direct replacement. I was also looking for an Optima Deep Cycle application. The only thing that I have found available for such an application is an Optima Yellow Top (deep cycle) D34 with a kit from Performance Products to mount it side ways. Overall as much as I wanted one and even though you can mount one in basically any position, I opted out of "riging to fit" situations. Eventually Optima will make batteries for the european market and supply us with something that will fit.

They are nice batteries.

All car batteries last from four to five years. I've found no difference in performance between a $30 battery and a $150. Then I'm not running 10,000 amps of sub woofers either.

one word, Interstate. am on my third in nine years. the first was a five year that was from the P/O dating to 90, replaced in 96. the second was a five-year that lasted for seven. just replaced two weeks ago with a 72

You aren't off to a bad start.... lets see what we have here Your prices aren't bad for PARTS, but they neglect labor if you are going to have a shop do it.

- Replace water pump and gasket : $260
- Replace belts : About $400 +\- $50 Parts\Labor
- Replace head gasket : $100 for head set of gaskets - NOT NECESSARY UNLESS IT IS LEAKING
- Replace hood cable $35
- Replace battery : $140 - Where do you shop, that is outrageous!
- Replace brakes and brake pads Pads and rotors will set you back around $400 - $500 for decent ones.
- Replace tires
- Drain and flush engine tranny -
- Clean all grounds parts and sensors - Clean the grounds, don't mess with the sensors, the connectors get brittle with age.
- New distributor cap, ignition rotor, spark plugs, and ignition wires - about $200
- New vacuum hoses and tubes - Just replace the rubber and plastic bits. To do it right, you will be pulling the intake manifold.
- Replace pullys - NOT NECESSARY
- Change oil, oil filter $20
- Change air filter : $15
- Drain fuel - Would replace the in-tank filter as well - runs about $53
- Replace fuel filter : $25
- Replace brake fluid : $15
- Check Oxygen sensor
- Replace oil seals: $100 for the seals.

Now - First priority (as has already been said) is belts - they need to be replaced before you do anything else. Until you know what you are doing, I do not recommend doing them yourself. Conversely, If you are doing your seals and waterpump, you should do those before you do the belts.

South Central is about 10 minutes west from Chillicothe, about 1 hour south of Columbus and 1 1/2 hour north of Cincy.

The first things I plan to do is replace head gaskets as well as other gaskets, check and replace the rubber parts because the rubber has probably rotten away to crap, drain all the fluids, replace the upper and lower hoses from the radiator, replace the filters, replace the belts and pullys.

THEN it should start and I can take it to a shop....right?

Skip the head gasket....Do the belts and seals first thing!! All the other stuff will fall after that is done. ie: the hoses have to come off to do the belt job..... Here is a picture of the area needing the seals and you will see the importance of replacing them now. For every shaft or roller there is going to be a seal....Sman

You should not start the car until the belts have been changed.

What ever you do don't paint up the belts and pulleys. It doesn't help.

And only use NEW tensioners. And real oil filters are a good idea too.

Sorry. I missed that, completely my fault.

This is one area where I really like my 914. The 914's camshaft is gear driven. All I have to worry about is adjusting solid lifters in a work area only slightly larger than your average mail slot.

Congrats on a fine automobile purchase- You'll never be sorry once you get the PM up to snuff. apart for the already stated dont forget to replace the fluids- brake fluid etc..
