Question Replacing check valve

Has anyone replaced the check valve in the fuel system? I'm having a hot start problem and I'm thinking my check valve might be the culprit. I ordered a new one from Pelican but I'm not sure where it goes. I looked around by the fuel pump and the fuel filter but I didn't really see it. Am I just missing it, or is it in a totally different place? If I correctly understand the check valve's function, then I assume that the valve should be somewhere in the output line after the fuel filter. Also, do I really need to relieve the fuel pressure before I replace it? If so, do I just pull the pump fuse and run the engine until it quits, or is there a better way to do it? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ryan,
Just had my check valve replaced, but as my mechanic did it, I'm a little short on details. He said the valve screws into the fuel pump itself, which is located in a recess on the underside of the tank. The plastic cover over the tank must be removed for access.

Yep, pulling the fuel-pump relay while the engine is running is a good way to de-pressurize the system. BTW, replacing that valve totally fixed the hot-start problem I was having. Good luck!

Question

Does the valve screw into the input side or the output side of the pump? If it's the output side, do I have to remove that big plastic cover that covers the tank with the strap around it or just the little cover that covers the rear of the pump? If I have to remove the big cover, how should I support the tank while I remove the strap in order to remove the cover?

Hi Doug,
I have a hot start problem too. Since cold start is OK on my car, (even after it sits for a long time) I am wondering if check valve will fix my problem. Before you change the check valve, do you have trouble to start your car when it is cold?

Thanks,
George

Alldi,
it is on outputside of pump & with banjo bolt, I think little cover is all you have to remove.

gz,

no hot start is a symtom of bad check valve.
