gasket for oil drain plug?

Just changed my oil today, found there was no gasket on the drain plug and *two* on the oil filter - ya think one of those might have been why it was leaking? anyway what is supposed to go on the drain plug? Copper washer? O-ring? I cut a piece of cardboard out of a box top to make my own gasket for now but next time I change the oil I'd like to do it right. Unfortunately there's no Porsche dealer nearby...

thanks,

nate

PS - picked up about half a bar of oil pressure after the change, PO must have taken it to Jiffy Lube or something and I bet they used 10W30... grr...

It's an aluminum crush washer, you can get them cheap through Pelican Parts or elsewhere. Here's pelican's page:

Metal washer. problem is that it needs a 22mm I think at least on a 951. After driving all around I eventually found one at NAPA. I took the plug with me while I search through every washer box in town. The washer I used appered to me to be copper. I'm sure pelican sells these.

Regarding those little metal washers - I put one on the drain plug but didn't have one on the filter - is there supposed to be one there?

No washer on the filter. The washers on the drain plug come in either aluminum or coper either is acceptable.

I think this depends on what model you have. PET, shows bolt and sealing washer, I think there are 2 gaskets from memory on oil filter

FWIW possibly on the 16v's.. no idea.

I haven't ever seen a gasket on an oil filter.

'cept an old Nash..

Go with the aluminum washer, disimilar metals are best kept to a minimum, they will corrode each other (galvanic cell), the copper corroding the aluminum, and cause the plug to sieze into the pan. all it takes is letting it get wet, that gives it the eletrolite to become a battery.

I am changing the oil on my 89 944 S2. Regarding the drain plug washer, is it this part # 900.123.118.30 (22 x 27 mm), or do I need 900.123.049.30 (26 x 32 mm)?
