Convert Turbo to NA?
Hey guys-
I've had it. My 951 is just way too fast for me to be driving. I'm considering converting it from turbo spec to NA. What should I look for and can it be done?

Oh, I have the solution, trade me for my 100hp NA, that will make you feel better.

I don't know, 100hp is probably too much. After chasing the elusive boost crackpipe, I'm ready to tone it down. This car is just too fast, brakes too, good and handles great. It just screams to be driven at insane speeds that are unsafe on American roads, not to mention consume precious gasoline and poluting the environment. Maybe Nader was right, we shouldn't be allowed to drive any fast cars in this country. So, I was thinking since I do like the styling, I could ditch the turbo motor and go back with something much more environmentallly friendly.

Yes, it's possible to convert your turbo to an N/A.
But have you taken into consideration all of the expenses involved? You will have to put on smaller brakes to match the lower horsepower. And you will also have to change the tranny. You must be very careful when removing the "turbo" badge from the rear of the car, or you will also have an expensive bill for body repair. The body! Have you priced out an N/A bumper and valence? And your front fenders will not work properly with the earlier nose, so add two fenders to the list. And fog lights. You will find softer springs more compliant for the car that now weighs less. There goes some more of the budget. Better get a proper alignment done after you swap in the lighter suspension. What to do with the boost guage? Cover it with electrical tape if you've run out of money by now. All I'm saying is that you may want to consider just selling the car you have, and buying another that is already set up for normally aspirated driving. |
