It has the Burgandy interior which needs just a little repair. My dash is perfect. My wheel is unlacing but otherwise good. Seats have a couple tears. I want to get it into an Uph. shop and re-lace the wheel, and repair the torn panels with new panels.

The car has 149k, and has had everything it ever needed. For what I paid, I have some breathing room if something takes a crap. There are some other things I can do to freshen the appearance as well. Example, that scuff guard decal on the front passenger fender has done its job and is discolored.

When was the cam chain guide/tensioner replaced? If it hasn't yet been replaced, it needs replacement! If it fails, you will have some serious damage to repair.

It already failed! The PO had a catastrophic failure of the tensioner. It now has a brand new head(not rebuilt or used, brand new Porsche), brand new cams, chain etc. Or I should say brand new at around 115k if memory serves me correct. The bill for this job was around $7800.

I know the tensioner is a weak link, how often should you replace it?

Also are the Kricket(sp?) belt gauges reliable?

Well lately that decision has been easy. The S2 is new for me and the 914 needs a fuel pump. Long story short, I had a BMW daily driver that I totalled 2 months ago. The 944 replaces that. I have been driving the 914 for 2 months when I bought the S2. So right now, no decision. Actually, I am going to sell the 914. I have another one I want to start working on.

Put your location in your profile so we can torture ourselves with the thought of buying your 914! My life would be complete if I had another 914... but... I'd be living in the doghouse for awhile

I'm in Scottsdale Arizona. Unfortunately that 914 is NOT AZRustFree. It has typical 914 rust. Console, battery tray, rear trunk. But its not as bad as some you might find in other areas. Its not a pristine example, but its nothing to be ashamed of either. A perfect driver.

Welcome to water world. It looks like a nice example.

The tensioner should be replaced every 90K The tensioner pads should be checked every 30 - 45K

Thanks for the info. So, the pads are probably about due for inspection.

It can't hurt. The pads themselves are cheap ($7 - $10). The valve cover gasket kit is around $50.

Cheap insurance against cam\valve failure.
