DME Relay not the problem... WHAT!?!

ok i got my new dme (had the 993 part number, but they are interchangable) put it in, car starts fine, drive it for a few hours, go to work, go to lunch, it works fine, come back, at 10 im coming home, and it doesnt start, i sit and try about 3 times, nothing, so just for the hell of it i put in my almighty 3 legged jumper dme, and it starts fine, i drive home, park it, and put the new dme back in, starts right up. any one have any idea what it might be? im thinking along the lines of a bad fuel pump, or a bad connection, but where is the pump located so i can take a look?

I would try the jumper for a while, see if the problem re-occurs with the jumper in place. Or, once it starts with the jumper, try popping the relay back in. Perhaps the problem lies within the DME?...

I asked my mechanic about the DME relays and how long they last. He told me that some times a few years, some times a few hours. It it possible that you purchased a bad relay.

Check the socket where the relay plugs in. Could be a loose wire or even a bad receiver for the pins on the relay. Your jumper may have oversize pins.

everything has been working fine today (before it got stuck in 4th) but how probable do you think it is that its a bad relay? im not sure what i should do, exchange it or keep it and see what happens

If it does it again, try tapping on the relay with your fingertip. If tat doesn't work, try a twelve pound sledge hammer.
